I can hardly believe it, but Thanksgiving is next week! Holy cow – how the time crept up on me this year. As usual, I am hosting dinner and what’s Thanksgiving without some egg nog? I am a huge fan of egg nog and if you are, too, then you are gonna love these Egg Nog Snickerdoodles!
Here’s what you need:
- 1/2 cup of butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 3/4 cups sugar, divided
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon of rum extract
- 2 3/4 cups of flour
- 2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 2 teaspoons of ground nutmeg
Here’s what you do:
- In a mixing bowl, mix the butter, shortening, and 1 1/2 cups of the sugar
- Beat in the eggs and the rum extract
- Combine the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt and gradually add it to the creamed mixture
- In a shallow bowl, combine the nutmeg and the remaining sugar
- Roll the dough into 1 inch balls
- Next roll it in the sugar mixture
- Place them about two inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets
- Bake at 400 F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned
Let cool and enjoy!

Wait…. there’s no egg nog in them! Is it the rum extract that gives them the flavor of egg nog?
I’m not a big fan of egg nog but I think that these might be alright since it’d be in smaller doses. Make sense?
Sounds good. I’ma have to try these
Thank you for posting this recipe! I have one for Eggnog Bread but really want to try these!
I am definitely going to make those this weekend! My mouth is watering!
I’m not a fan of egg nog either … to me, it’s uncooked scrambled eggs.
Egg nog and snickerdoodles…..what a combination!
Snickerdoodles are my favorite but I don’t like egg nog…But still I might try these.
Yummmmy and YUM!…stopping by joining from Changing Diapers and Taking Names come by and say hi
