Years ago, I had a friend that would literally leave her Christmas tree up until April. Christmas must have been her favorite holiday and I’m pretty sure she put her tree up absurdly early (like in October), too. She insisted that waking up in the mornings and seeing the Christmas tree made her happy. I remember thinking to myself that leaving the (artificial) tree up for all those months was beyond insane and that if she just found herself a boyfriend, he would probably have the same effect on her.
Anyway…..
I know some people observe the traditional 12 days of Christmas before they take their tree down and some others take the tree down on New Years day. As for me, I like to take my tree down on Christmas night. Yes, you read that right. I figure that once Christmas is over, it’s over and I like to get my house back to “normal” as soon as possible. As it is, I’m fairly certain that Christmas morning in my house looks something like the aftermath of a tornado and having the tree taking up precious space just doesn’t sit well with me. So out to the curb it goes.
So, when do you take your tree down?

We took ours down bright and early yesterday morning (the day after Christmas). People thought I was crazy for doing it so early but I definitely needed to get some order back in the house!
I took my tree down yesterday as soon as I came in from work. I’ve been known to take it down Christmas night. This year I was too exhausted. I am like you. When it’s over, I am done. I need my house back. I love it being up before Christmas and I do enjoy it, but once the holiday is done, it’s just a reminder of one more thing I need to do.
We leave it up for a few days, but it’s down before New Years. In fact … today is the day! Nothing else planned but staying in our pj’s, gorging on leftovers & cookies and
pretendingattempting to clean the house up.I took mine down yesterday evening (26th.) My living room is just too tiny and I need that space! In the past, I usually left it up til New Years Day.
Mine will be coming down soon. I put it up pretty early, and while it has held up well, a dry tree is not good in the house.
We used to put it up – Christmas Eve day – approx. the 24th….. and take it down just about New Years Day. With people putting them up – so early – like November or beg. of Dec. – it coming down right after christmas sounds okay. I like about a week of it up.
We usually have it down before New Year’s. I hate taking all the decorations down, but I need the room back!!
Well, I take my tree down whenever I feel like it. However, it is always down before New Years. Probably going to put things away today.
I like to take mine down News years day. Sometimes the mail man makes me take it down earlier but that is my plan.
We took ours down yesterday morning. It had mange and I was sick of sweeping up needles all over the house because the cat tracked them everywhere. Christmas is done, moving on.
I wanted to take ours down today but my hubs asked me to keep it up until new years. The mess is driving me batty
ROFL Your tree is out on curb like yesterday’s trash…it must feel so used! We usually take our tree down on New Year’s Day, but I have a real tree this year and have no idea how I am going to dispose of it because it won’t fit in my trash can. Maybe I’ll plant it in the backyard and hope for the best.
Around here, the towns have tree pick up days & they come around and take them. Although last year we got a foot of snow the day after Christmas & then another foot a few weeks later, so our tree was burried until for months until all the snow melted. We ended up throwing it in woods across the street to get it out of our yard.
I wanted to take mine down on boxing day but we are leaving it up until Tobei’s son comes over for a Christmas visit. Supposed to be today but not sure as we got nasty weather out there right now.
I’m with you on this one. The sooner after Christmas, the better. I just took mine down last night. It’s nice to have the house back in order.
The day after Christmas that sucker comes down and goes back into storage.
We have an artificial tree so I usually leave it up until New Year’s Day. This year though I am thinking it might be earlier. I love how the house looks at Christmas but it does take up too much space!
When we put one up, it’s usually taken down by New Year’s Day. We’ve got an artificial one.
This year, we opted not to put one up, due to not being home enough this month to enjoy it!
I usually wait until it comes back to life and starts asking for braaaaains, but that’s just me.
We don’t put one up so it’s a non-issue.
Goes up the day after Thanksgiving, comes down the day after Christmas. Booyah, done!
My tree is still up at the moment. Will probaly take it down after the New Year.
Whenever my husband gets around to it ROFL
I love my tree and seeing it every morning makes me happy. I love the holidays. I have always taken my tree down before New Year’s and even though it breaks my heart, this year will be no different.
We take ours down after Little Christmas!! We put ours up about 2 weeks before Christmas and although I do kind of hate the room it takes up, I HATE how fast Christmas comes and goes so this prolongs it in my mind..(plus I hate taking down the tree).. I’m hoping hubby will surprise me and have it down on his day off this week (Thursday)…
I took our tree down on the 27th Dec,after it being up for two weeks – long enough! My sons pet rabbit had unexpected babies,so i needed the space in my living room! In the past I’ve taken the tree and decs down round about the 5th Jan.
