Yesterday I told you about how we brewed our own beer at Barleycorn’s Craft Brew. It was a very cool experience! Our beer had to sit and ferment for three weeks, so we made an appointment to go back so that we could bottle & label what we made. You saw yesterday that we brewed a huge vat of beer – enough to fill six cases. Yes SIX. That’s a lot of beer, huh?

The first thing we had to do was wash our bottles. We were given the option to bring our own or buy bottles from them for $25. Since we’re really not huge beer drinkers, we bought the bottles from them.

Chris is such a good guy – he did all the washing. After he was done, he & I placed them on these trees to dry a little bit.

Once that was done, we got to work filling our bottles – three at a time.  The machine did all the work, though.  We just had to put the bottles in, press a button and then remove them when they were filled.

Once they were filled, we had to cap them all (about 150 bottles).  Chris did 99% of them because it was harder to press them on than I thought it would be.

Here are about a quarter of our bottles:

While Chris was busy filling and capping the bottles, I was busy cutting and applying the labels.

Here is the glue machine.  Once I cut the labels, I ran them through here to apply glue to the back of them.

Then I applied the labels like an old pro.

Here is the finished product:

Chris and I had a good system going and finished up in about two hours.

Here’s the stack of beers we would be leaving with:

My handsome husband carried all of the cases to the car because they were heavy (awwww).

Here’s all our beer loaded into the trunk:

We aren’t huge beer drinkers, so we’ve been sharing it as much as possible.  It was definitley an awesome experience and I have to say that the beer really did come out good.  We sampled a little bit as we worked.

  1. So how did the beer come out? Seriously looked like fun and again I am going to show Kevin the finished product. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  2. Oh how fun!!! Nick would LOVE that! He’s a “beer snob” so it’s something he’d enjoy.

  3. Grant says “Send us one.” Did you say what type of beer that you bottled? I might have missed that…..pale ale? stout? 🙂

  4. that’s such a fun idea! i’m not a beer drinker, so give this girl some liquor! 😉
I live by the sweetwater brewery in atl. everyone makes me take them there, lol

  5. That does look like a fun thing to do, all the way down to the labels. 🙂

  6. So I wouldn’t call us beer snobs.. unless you mean I won’t drink beer because it literally makes me sick to even smell. But my husband would love to do something like this in a heartbeat..

  7. Oh – that is such a fun project to do together. I love how you guys to tons of thing that you participate in together.

Oh Robin, thanks for the vote of confidence in my plaid cork heels. I am planning on styling those as soon as the weather permits around here. {lately 30° highs} so not anytime soon, tho.

  8. Oh and have a fabulous weekend and hug your sons for me, too.

  9. How much is a little when it came to sampling? Did Chris have to carry the boxes to the car because they were truly heavy or you were wobbly?

  10. What an interesting process. I really enjoyed reading about your experience the past two days. Very cool!

  11. That looks like a lot of fun and hard work too. I grew up in Wisconsin so I love my beer. How did it taste? I might have to check and see if there are any craft breweries in my area that do this. Have a terrific weekend!

  12. We have a lot of drinking ahead of us

  13. That is an insane amount of beer! Somehow, I thought you’d make like a 6 pack or so! How much was it to do the whole process? It’s a great idea for small breweries. Wish I drank beer so I would want make some too!

  14. Y’all are just too cool for school! This is seriously such a neat thing. I had to show my husband. We aren’t big beer drinkers, either, but this would be a fun thing to do and share our creation with.

  15. this is a lot of fun! Love every step you did for the bottles

  16. How fun! This would be a great couples activity (and hopefully we could all split the beer). I need to see if there’s something similar close to where we live. Neato!

  17. Looks like loads of fun. How did the beer come out? I’m not a beer drinkers but would do it for the experience.

  18. Wow, that’s a lot of beer! I’m glad to hear it turned out well. Sounds like such a fun experience!

  19. This is so cool and tons of beer. Looks like a great experience and fun for that date night:)

  20. What a neat experience! This would totally be something I could do with my hub that he would actually enjoy doing.

  21. That ios pretty neat to be able to brew your own beer!

  22. It is so neat that you got to make custom labels! That is a lot of beer….Chris got a workout. 🙂

  23. And the Canadian went wild!!! LOL
That definitely is a nice amount of beer to go home with. Wouldn’t last some hockey fans up here the weekend. ha. But it would be very cool to hand someone a bottle of your very own brand of beer in the middle of the game.

  24. So, when’s the party? I’ll expect an invite 😉

  25. My sister and her hubby visit these brewery’s alot. I don’t have a big taste for beer but I think making it yourself is a pretty cool concept.

  26. Wow, this is awesome. I love the fact that you actually brewed these and packaged them. The flavor must be all that much better knowing they were made at your hand.

  27. Even though you are not big beer drinkers (neither am I) you look like you had a lot of fun–now hopefully you will be able to give them away easily! Those labels were perfectly aligned!!

  28. Very cool! Something that my husband would enjoy for sure! We like to try different beers, my husband more so than I.

  29. Such an awesome idea! My husband would love to do something like this, so would I. We actually don’t drink much at all-but how can anyone pass up the chance at making their own beer?!

  30. Wow! What a cool business as a family!

  31. What a cool experience! I know a lot of friends who would love to do this

  32. I’m not going to tell Gord that you are giving away beer because he’d be at your door in no time 🙂

  33. Oh wow.. it must be so nice to be able to personally brew those beers. 🙂

  34. Very cool! My little brother started his own micro-brewery type thing. I can’t believe how involved the process is! He really enjoys it though. He’s a lawyer, but now he wants to go back to school for chemistry because he’d rather make beer!

  35. Those look like amazing gifts or something for a party at home. It is a lot but if you have people over, it won’t be that much anymore 🙂

  36. Looks like you had a lot of fun! My brother would love to bottle his own.

  37. WOW! How cool! I had bought my hubby a beer making kit and bottles for Christmas. He loved it, even though he has not had time to start his project LOL. Maybe a little wifey encouragement will do the job!

  38. This is super awesome! I love that they have your own personal labels and everything. Your husband sure came through on this date idea, it’s so so cool.

  39. It would be totally cute to keep some of the bottles as vases! I love how personalized they are!

  40. That is seriously cool! My boyfriend would freaking love to do this! Too bad there’s nothing like this around here. :/

  41. ummmm…..I’m speechless – that’s pretty cool – wandering how much each bottle would cost and can you sell them?

  42. That is a lot of beer – I’m sure everyone is enjoying it.

Your husband seems like he enjoyed doing this – good system you guys had 🙂

  43. so how did it taste? hope it tasted as good as it looked

  44. Thats pretty cool & looks like a lot of fun I know it tasted good. Did you taste it yet?

  45. You made your own beer? wow, that is just so cool. I love that you also put personal labels on them!

  46. This would be so much fun! We do not drink a ton of beer, but I would love to learn how to make it!

  47. I wanna give that a try, looks like a lot of fun 😀

  48. Congratulations. I would love to try and do this. I love a light beer.

  49. Looks like a fun date day/night activity. Like you we don’t drink much beer. My husband had an employee who made wine and their wine was so good. I think I will look into that process. As much wine as I drink it sure would be nice to have my own arsenal!

  50. What a great way to spend some time together. How did it taste? I would love to brew some beer or make some homemade wine. My husband jokes all the time and says he is building a moonshine still.

  51. Wow that sounds like a great experience. I wish they did things like that with soda’s! It would be awesome to custom make your own soda’s (i.e. Cherry Mountain Dew anyone?), bottle them in the glass bottles, and take home cases of them.

  52. this has to be the most awesome thing ever! I’m not huge on beer drinking either, but brewing your own and having your own labels on them sounds really fun to me! Wish we had something like that in Montreal!

  53. That is really neat. I love that you do the whole thing from making to labeling!

  54. Wow, this place is really legit! I know my husband would have love to experience this! He would most certainly bring his own bottles.

  55. I would love to try this someday. Looks like a great time!

  56. I bet that was really fun! Our neighbors make their own beers. They even grow their own hops.

  57. I’ve never really cared for beer, but I have friends that would find this to be a really cool activity. Especially adding your own labels!

  58. Wow, that sure is a lot of beer. I thought one bottle was a lot!

  59. Awe! It really seems like you guys had a great time. Love the labels and even better that you share with friends!

  60. This really seems like an awesome adventure. To be able to go through the whole process like you did seems like something many people would like to experience.

  61. Wow, that’s a lotta beer! Looks like a fun experience.

  62. I honestly hate beer, but I must say that I’m intrigued!

  63. I need to find out if we can do this locally. I see a great gift idea for my husband in the works!

  64. How much did this all cost? My husband wants to go SO BAD! I just showed him this!!!
