Yesterday, Chris & I took the gruesome twosome to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Abington, MA.  Back in the day, I used to go to the big parade in Southie (Boston), but the crowd can get a little rowdy in the city, so I wanted to take them to a smaller event like the one in Abington.

As far as parades go, it was a pretty decent one to be honest.  It was our first year attending that parade and the boys loved it.  Maybe I should clarify, though.  They loved all the candy they collected from the people throwing it off of the floats.

We got there a little early so that we could get a good spot to see the parade.

Once it started, fire trucks from Abington and other local towns drove by followed by floats, antique cars, horses, marching bands and even bagpipers.

Heck, there was even a random goat in the parade. Actually I think he was from the 4H club, but don’t quote me on that.

But themost important part of the day, by far,  was to collect as much candy thrown off of the floats as humanly possible!

The little one wasn’t above begging for it, either.

They each ended up with a bag full of loot and we all had a blast at the parade.  If you’re looking for an alternative to the big parade in Boston next year, the one that Abington puts on is definitley worth checking out.

  1. Loved all the floats and the marching bands and the people dressed up in the crowds were great

  2. I didn’t even realize they did a parade in Abington! It looks like a good one. And honestly, what’s a parade without coming home with a bag full of candy?

  3. We don’t have a local parade and the one closest to us the NYC one that is today. And that is something maybe we might do when the girls are older, but right now that is just too much for me to have to worry about. But this looked like so much fun 🙂

  4. We don’t have a St. Patrick’s Day parade here, it would be fun if they did though. 🙂 My son likes the candy that gets thrown too. 😉

  5. Yay St. Pattys!! Looks like ya’ll had a blast!

  6. I love parades, look like your family had a blast!

  7. We don’t go to parades often but the kids really enjoy them. Looks like fun!

  8. Great post, Robin! Glad they could get “all that candy”. I’m sure they thought that was the BEST part of the parade. I loved your photos, too. Have a great St. Patrick’s Day a wearin’ o’ the PINK! YAY, PINK POWER!!! lol

  9. What fun! I kinda sorta can’t believe I have NEVER EVER been to a St. Paddy’s Day Parade in my life. I need to add it to the bucket list! Looked like a fun one!

  10. We took our girls to the parade here on Saturday. Our city put a ban on the candy throwing though for fear that the kids were going to get hit by one the cars in the parade. Now they get crummy political flyers and cheap Mardi Gras necklaces. Glad your boys were able to load up though!

  11. What a fun parade! I wish we had one in our area because I would have took my children.

  12. We wanted to go to the one in Boston, but people advised us it wasn’t worth taking a 6 month old and 4 year old to…lol. We shoulda looked up smaller ones around the area!

  13. Ha – love their hats and glasses. Parades are just awesome – even without candy. but candy definitely makes it better. why can’t they throw beer? Well, I suppose the adults take care of that part enough on their own – hence the rowdiness.

  14. My boys go for the candy too! I love that Dunkin was representing with that float and the big iced coffee! They should have been handing out coffees for the parents! 🙂 Glad you and the boys had fun.

  15. So fun! The ones in our area tend to be weeks before SPD – weird!

  16. Looks like you and your family had a lot of fun! My family and I actually never attended a parade before and attending one is definitely on our to-do list.

  17. Nothing like a good parade! Looks like a nice day for it too!

  18. What a cute parade! That Dunkin Donuts car is amazing. I once took a picture of a Dunkin Donuts truck angled just right so it said, “Erica Lives on Dunkin” So true!

  19. love the shamrock glasses! Wish we had a parade where the throw candy at you, my kids would love it!

  20. Smaller is sometimes better–I went to the one in NYC one year–NEVER AGAIN!!!! It was great but the CROWDS–oh my gosh!! I’m glad your children got to actually see the parade and of course get themselves some candy!

  36. We went to the local parade last year and my girls had a ball. One managed to walk away with a $20 bill thrown from a float. Seriously not sure if it was on ourpose or accident but my daughter and the adults standing next to us saw it and all ran for it. Being low to the ground gave our daughter the advantage! LOL
