There’s something pretty awesome about connecting with your kids over something you loved when you were young, am I right?  It offers them a glimpse into what you were like as a kid yourself and gives you a way to relive your childhood.  Win-win.

As it turns out, cartoons such as the new Netflix original series Inspector Gadget and Danger Mouse are giving parents and their kids loads to bond over. Not only are the old-school classics we all grew up on more popular than ever, but new reboots are introducing a whole new generation to some of our most favorite characters.

I love snuggling up with my boys on the sofa to watch Inspector Gadget.

Go-Go-Gadget-Copter.

I plan on spending some time with the boys this summer watching these retro shows for sure, but watching them made me think back to all the other fun stuff we usually do over the summer in our family.

It wouldn’t be summer in our family without a visit to the local amusement park, Canobie Lake.

And we never miss going to watch the Patriots Training Camp every August.

We are big strawberry lovers, so every June we go strawberry picking.

We love Old Orchard Beach in Maine!  Here the boys are on their first trip there back in 2011!

And if you are from the area, you probably have pictures of your kids just like this at Santa’s Village.  We’re there every summer, too.

And of course, we go to Disney World every year – usually in the summer, but in 2013 we changed it up and went for Halloween.

  1. My brother actually was the inspector gadget fan while I actually preferred real live action shows like The Magic Garden as a kid. Not sure if you remember that show, but totally admit to loving it here 😉

  2. I think it’s great that you are such a close and active family! You are always headed somewhere fun and new! Summers are overloaded for us with all the great weather….we are outside enjoying it mostly, but there’s always a few days that are meant for marathon Netlflix sessions too!

  3. I love going through old pics and talking about it with the boys. I am often heard saying I remember doing this when I was younger or telling my hubby we need to go here with the boys because I did when I was younger and loved it. One of the main reasons I love Netflix is that we can watch my fav shows and the boys can enjoy them hassle free.

  4. My son used to love Inspector Gadget. These are fun activities during the summer. Every year, we love going to different beaches.

  5. This is so cute! When I was little (like 2 or 3) I loved Speed Racer 🙂 I remember loving that super hero show with the Wonder Twins and others…I forget the title. Scooby Doo was totally a favorite too.

  6. We had a Santa’s Village in the midwest too! Goodness, the boys have grown up so much! I love throwback shows, by the way.

  7. I absolutely LOVE Scooby Doo. It’s nice that Netflix has these available. Sadly we don’t get full internet service where we are at, otherwise I would have Netflix again.

  8. I like a lot of classics to. Whenever I can’t reach something I say, “Go Go Gadget Arms!” It just doesn’t work like Inspector Gadget.

I bet it’s fun picking strawberries. They are bigger than my berries. We planted some this year, but I guess we’re supposed to wait until next year before we eat berries off the plant.

  9. Awe! Love seeing the #tbt photos of your kiddos. They are so cute. I used to watch Scooby Doo and Ryan does too – but he is a fan of the newer shows (of course!) Ryan has seen all episodes on Netflix – of course!

  10. We used to go to the Bears training camp every year when it was in Wisconsin. I’ll be the Patriots one is just as cool!
