Many people look at stay at home moms as having the easy life. Nothing to do all day. Sitting around the house all day. Well I am here to tell you that is not the case. Here is just a small example of the day in the life of a stay at home mom.

6:00 AM Alarm goes off to start the day. From now until 6:30 it is my time. NO kids, no husband (works midnights). I turn on the coffee pot and here comes the cat. Meowing. And meowing. Now standing on his hind legs to be picked up. So I bend down pick him up and it is now mommy and Nemo time. I might add this is the kitten I syringe fed from 3 days old so I am his mommy.

6:30 AM Time to get the girls up. Now some parents go in the room, lights still off and gently wake their sleeping babies. Not this momma. My girls are terrible to get out of bed, so on with the lights and I go to get clothes from the closet as they holler at me and get out of bed 🙂 Breakfast for them and the little brother if he comes down.

7:00 AM Holler at the girls to hurry up and go get ready. Start to make lunches for school, check backpacks to be sure all is ready…. Crap my coffee is now cold…… And the hubby is now home. The dogs have now emerged from bed (yes they stay in bed after I get up ) Let them out and step in the spot where the other cat has left her hairball………

7:15 AM Place a towel over wet spot, go to do the girls hair, go back to finish lunches and let the dogs inside.

7:45 AM Time to head to school for the drop off, I am still in my pajamas. Luckily we have curb side drop off. Head back home.

8:00 AM Time to clean up the wet spot and feed the animals. Who act like it has been a week since they ate.

Now from 8 until 11:45 I clean and do laundry, make breakfast for the hubby so he can go to sleep. I am also working on this blog 😉

11:00 AM Time to make some lunch for my littlest in the house.

11:30 AM get him dressed for school and gather up his things.

11:45 AM head to the school and drop him off.

12:00 PM Now this varies from day to day. I may run errands kid free, I may go to work at the shelter for a few or come home to finish cleaning and laundry. Also I will finally get a shower most likely if I didn’t get it before dropping off at Pre K.

2:30 PM Load up in the car again and head back to the Pre k Pick up Colton Head to the grade school.

3:00 PM Wait for the buses to go, grab the girls and head home.

3:15 PM Homework for the 3 of them (Colton has to feel involved so we do letters and numbers)

Again depending on the day this next schedule may vary.. Monday and Tuesday at 4:30 is ballet, tap, or jazz. Tuesday and Thursday at 530 is tumbling and every other Wednesday is Girl scouts.

So depending on the day we will do our running and supper around those times.

7:00 PM is now bath time for the 3. This will go for at least an hour.

8:30 PM is bed time this takes another 30 minutes to get them all settled.

9:00 PM it is time to pack the hubby’s lunch, get his uniform ready and maybe watch a show with him before I crawl into bed at 10.

This is just a basic run down of a day for our house. Some days have more than others but as you can see I do not sit around that is for sure 😉

  1. You do have a busy day! Make sure to find time for yourself when you can as that is very important too!

  2. I well remember when I was a stay-at-home mom. The kids are all grown now, but I can remember rarely having a second to myself – not even bathroom time alone.

  3. Being a mom is a full time job. I feel exhausted already just reading your itinerary but I’m sure the kids appreciate your effort.

  4. Ah yes, this sounds a lot like my days. Although all of my kids are in school at the same time, I still feel like there’s never enough hours in the day to get everything done.

  5. I absolutely love this post. There are too many people out there who don’t appreciate all the work we moms really do behind the scenes. GREAT post.

  6. What a hectic schedule. I am happy to see that even with your schedule, you still find time to watch a show with him which is important.

  7. Not sure why people think stay at home moms don’t do anything. I was always busy as a stay at home mom.

  8. Being a stay at home mom is a busy task. I have been both a working mom and a stay at home mom and both of them were hard.

  9. How do you have time to blog? It seems like you are always doing something. However, you at least have a routine. My day usually starts at 4am and doesn’t stop until around 11pm. Most of that time I am busy, too. There’s very little down time here.

  10. Sounds like a busy day! I have to work full time during the day, but at night I’m crazy busy with client and blog work. Lucky to fall into bed by 1 and up at 5:30!

  11. I was the same way when my kids were young. I must say, I survived it! Now they are all grown ups and you would think my life is more relaxed? Ha. Today, there are the grandchildren to babysit. Mothering never ends! 🙂 Hang in there, you’ll survive this too!

  12. I always found it amusing when people thought I was just sitting home watching soap operas when the boys were little. Yeah, like I could do that without them wrecking serious havoc.

My eldest is now in college and the youngest is in 1st grade I don’t feel like my schedule is lightening up any time soon.

  13. This is a great example of a at home mom. It is so true for any mom that their work is never done. Thanks for sharing your day as a stay at home mom.

  14. I’m not a mom, but most of my friends are, so I can still appreciate this! This was fun to read and eye opening, too!

  15. This sounds very similar to my day….working and taking care of my kids from the moment I get out of to when I get into bed. We are most definitely super moms, don’t you think?

  16. We moms do so much in a day, and everyone needs to know that! I love this post!

  17. I think it’s way too easy for people to forget or overlook just exactly what it is that a mom does. We are the unsung heroes of the family, in my opinion.

  18. You have such busy days! No wonder you go to bed at 10pm. My days look like this most of the time and I know how crazy it is with making sure everyone is ready for the day

  19. It’s definitely a busy time with 3 kids and all their activities. I have #4 coming soon, and I love being a busy mom.

  20. Life is always busy for me. I’m not a stay at home mom, but even when I did stay home when I had the boys life was busy!

  21. mine aren’t in school yet, so my dy starts with a 4 year old crawling into my bed to ask for breakfast and a baby crying to be fed.

  22. I wish I could live this lifestyle! I know it has its ups and downs, but it sounds nice to me.

  23. I too am running around all day. It sounds like your days are pretty busy. I usually try to find some time in the morning to just sip my tea or coffee in peace.

  24. I’ll be honest I do not miss that mad dash to get the kids up and out the door for school on time, and get myself ready to go to work. I homeschool my youngest (11), we don’t even start our day until 10. Well she doesn’t. I do. I’ve been up since 8:30.

  25. To be a Mother, itself is an achievement! Reading this has reminded me of my childhood! You’re doing very fine! Keep it up!

  26. I love my kids a lot, but I sure love having a little bit of time with my husband after the kids are in bed. Watching a show like you or playing a game, it is nice to have that time. A moms work is not easy, that’s for sure.

  27. You definitely don’t sit around! Lots of running getting the kiddos from one place to the next

  28. Mom life is definitely not as chilled out and lazy as so many people think it is! And the more kids, the crazier!

  29. Sounds a lot like my day! Many times, when bedtime hits, I have no idea how I made it through.

  30. Those types of comments, to anyone, are not necessary. No matter what the career or job or role. If the overall vibe is unkind – its just rude. So – move on…

  31. It is definitely a full time job, I wish I had time to read more, exercise and other stuff. But parenting is the most rewarding ob you could have.

  32. I honestly don’t look back fondly to my crazy hectic days when all 10 kids were under the roof. Don’t get me wrong. I loved having a houseful, but now I’m TIRED and enjoy a less crazy daily schedule.

  33. Ahhh the life of a mom. Busy, busy, busy.

  34. I’m pregnant with my first, but boy do I believe life will get busier once the baby is born and who knows when it will calm down? After all the kids go to college? Once they settle down with families of their own?

  35. Ah that remind me that time when I used be an au pair ! Your daughter is very cute little girl !

  36. How do you even manage? So many things to do and make sure are being done and remember! I wouldn’t even know where to start! Well done!!:) xx

  37. I was rolling by the time you got to getting the little ones ready. If I’m awake before everybody, I try to sneak out and get some things done without being bothered. However, the cats like to sabotage that. Mine like to act like they haven’t eaten in weeks as well so as soon as I’m awake and walking out the bedroom door, they’re meowing as loud as they can, trying to crawl up my leg. I’m trying to hush them the whole way so they don’t wake everyone up. lol The day in the life of a mom is right!

  38. I can’t stand when people think I sit home all day! Far from the case!

  39. Such a good look at what a day looks like in your life. I should do this for myself, to explain why I am exhausted when I work from home! Hugs.

  40. It sounds like you have a busy schedule. I too get up early (normally 5 am) to do work and get ready for work before I leave my house at 6am x

  41. Our days are definitely super busy all the time no matter what age our children are. There is always so much to do!

  42. Whew I am tired just reading your schedule! 🙂 Makes me glad I homeschool and my kids can sleep in a bit so I have 5 minutes to myself before our craziness begins!

  43. Such a busy day – I don’t know how moms do it. I am always so amazed and inspired by your labour of love!

  44. Oh trust me I hear ya on the busy days. I swear when people say I “just” work part time I’m like wth! I haven’t vacuumed in a week! Where does the day go?

  45. That is one jampacked schedule! Everyday is busy but it’s also nice that the kids utilize their time to try out other activities aside from just attending school.

  46. My day starts and 7 and ends at about 10:30. I do not know how we all do it but it surely is not an easy task!

  47. I always have said that stay at home moms have the hardest job!! I was one for 8 years and now I work part time so I am doing both. Trying to find a good balance.

  48. Wow that is a busy day. Do not forget to take some time out sometimes for yourself.

  49. Sounds like you’re certainly keeping busy. My day starts around 6am as well. My girls have to be on the bus by 6:40am. They’re one of the first to get on the bus.

  50. It is really not easy! My wife and I are full-time parents to our baby daughter! We already feel tired with one child! Kudos to you!

  51. Thank you for sharing this! I just recently began staying home, and so many people act like I don’t do anything. I am running around and doing stuff more than when I worked full time.

  52. That is definitely a full schedule! It sounds like a lot of work and it takes a lot of energy to keep that pace!

  53. You have such a busy life and do so, so much I get tired just thinking about it. But, believe it or not, it actually makes me MISS those hectic days now that my 4 are all off at college. Kids grow up so fast it’s so important to enjoy every moment of family life.

  54. This looks very normal and brings back lots of memories when my kids were little.

  55. Starting the day with some quiet “me” time is so important. I’ve found that it’s necessary for my sanity and my productivity. You are one busy lady so it seems to help you out too.

  56. Sounds like a full day! Mom life can be so hectic but it’s just the best!

  57. its a nice of you to have everything organize and you have time management! busy yet a great mom!

  58. Whoever said being a stay at home mom has never been one. There never seems to be enough hours in the day. Having a routine of some sort does help.

  59. What a busy day! My days are crazy too – the life of moms, right?

  60. Yah I never understand why people think stay at home moms sit on the couch and eat bon bons lol. I was so busy when I stayed home that I was happy to go back to work. You go girl!!

  61. Being a SAHM has been my hardest yet best job yet! I loved reading about your day! 🙂

  62. I think you write it all down like this you and others don’t even comprehend the sheer bulk of stuff you have to do on a daily basis to keep your family moving! A mom’a work is NEVER DONE!!

  63. being a mom is BUSY! you reminded me that it is time to sign my kiddos up for some more extracarriculars…we do 4H but that doesn’t really start til april…

  64. This sounds so much like my mum’s daily routine. Being a mum is definitely a full time job!

  65. Moms are a busy bunch aren’t we!? I often envy that my husband gets to go to work to plug into one task at a time. Where I have to multi-task nearly every minute of our day!

  66. You sound very busy! What a life parents have…I have some in-laws and a sister who have children and I see how busy they are!

  67. I have 7 kids, and during the week have 4 home with me full time. I wish I could sit on the couch all day and do nothing, it drives me nuts when people think that. I quickly shut them down always.

  68. Yep. Pretty much how my days go too. Isn’t it funny how much time something little can take up in a day?

  69. Yep, this definitely sounds about right. I will say things get a lot easier once all of the children are in school. I live for my daily alone time!

  70. Yep, that sounds a lot like my life. Definitely no sleeping in here, not even on weekends. While I have the luxury of shopping in the middle of the day and not in the evening when grocery stores are filled with after work shoppers, my days are pretty packed and I still wonder how the day get’s away from me sometimes.

  71. Moms definitely have some busy days, I know this is the same for myself.

  72. I must say, reading your timeline for the day brings back memories. My kids are teens, so we don’t have to get up quite as early. Thank goodness!

  73. Moms are always busy. From taking care of the kids, house chores, and many more, They have no holidays and less rest.

  74. Woah!!! What a busy day!!!! Being a mom is one busy and tough job yet so very rewarding

  75. I have never understood why people want to give stay at home mothers such grief! You just prove how hard much work it really is!

  76. Sounds like you’re running a tight ship! Totally agree with you. Being a stay at home mom is not always a walk in the park. You rock it!

  77. Stay at home moms is not easy, I don’t know many that are not running around like crazy. Looks like you have a great schedule in place. It is a lot of work, I have a lot of respect for what you are doing! You should be proud of yourself!

  78. Crazy schedule! I feel bad now when I complain I don’t have enough time with my full-time job and blogging. Awesome that you make time. 🙂

  79. It never ends, does it? A mom’s day is always filled! I could really go for a day with nothing to do!

  80. A mom’s work is never done. I had to laugh when I read the part about the fur babies acting like they never eat. Mine wakes me up every morning, heaven forbid he sleeps in, pretending he has to go out but really it is because he wants breakfast.

  81. A mom’s life is always hectic and packed! It’s amazing how you survive the day without breaking down. I applaud you for being so on top of everything for your kids and your home.

  82. All though I don’t have kids, I am a proud aunt. A proud aunt who always needs a vacation after spending time with my nieces and nephew. They are a never ending force of nature, but I love it. I can’t imagine how exhausting it must be for stay-at-home moms who are always on the go go go.

  83. You are one busy little bee. I can say this, I would not have been organized like you to have been a blogger when my kids were small. I don’t know how parents do it.

  84. I love reading a ‘day in the life ‘ post. It a great way to get that blogger well. xx

  85. Hats off to all mummies (whether stay at home or working) we all put in a big effort into our kids, home and family life – it is however to think about ourselves too – schedule girl dates with friends and a bit of relaxed time for yourself too.

  86. Seems like a very hectic life! Glad you can keep it all together.

  87. This is a great illustration of your day and why being a stay- and work-at-home-mom is REALLY a lot of work!

  88. 6:30am – 9pm what a long job! And you still manage to run this blog you are superwoman go Robin!

  89. This is purely amazing. This is pretty similar to my schedule although my kids have been waking up at 6 am on their own lately. WHY?!

  90. I am so impressed with this! As someone who has no kids (and isn’t a wife), you rock as a mom! A schedule makes things much easier, too.

  91. I am so impressed with this! As someone who has no kids (and isn’t a wife), you rock as a mom! A schedule makes things much easier, too

  92. Sounds like a busy day! We are childless but my company is my baby and being a full time entrepreneur is a lot of work too, so I totally felt ya when you said the coffee is cold, sounded like my mornings too!

  93. This definitely sounds like the life of a mom. My daughter is only 18 months old but our day sounds pretty similar.

  94. being mom is such a tough job god. amke sure you take out some time for yourself in this busy schedule 🙂

  95. Sounds like you definitely keep busy take my care of your home and your family.

  96. Thanks everyone. I have been bother the working and stay at home mom. Both are a very tough job. We do have lots of fun in our house that is for sure. Just thisbweeke d we did cake tines for school……. 70 of them between all 3 kids!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily the girls are old enough to do their own I just had to help little man. 😉

  97. It’s the hardest job in the world – being a mum. And you’re excelling in it. Hugs!

  98. Wow, so interesting to read about the schedule with the kids. You are right, that doesn’t sound like sitting around at all but rather sounds like a lot of work! But also fun times too 🙂

  99. Many of these activities are all too familiar. Sometimes it’s hard for me to imagine my life before kids!!

  100. Good for you for sharing your schedule. I try to explain this to my husband who sits in a quiet, comfortable office all day with no one to bug him. Ha

  101. I swear I wanna punch people sometimes when they think it’s just sitting around the house all day long. Watching Netflix for hours or something. Not with 3 kids and hubby, none of whom can clean up after themselves. I mean I do have lazy days – I force myself to take one every now and then just for sanity. But there is always work to be done. Always. Plus I volunteer a lot outside the home.
