new-food-options-at-the-td-garden-in-boston

Picture this:  You & your family (or friends) head out for a night at the Bruins, Celtics or other event at the TD Garden in Boston.  You fight the traffic getting into Boston, find parking, walk from where ever you parked to the arena, get through security and suddenly you’re starving. It happens every time, right?

Whenever I head into the Garden, the first thing I usually do is make a quick detour to the closest restroom, find my seats and then scout out the food options. What I have always loved about the TD Garden is that they have so many great food choices.

Concessions and food options include:

  • Big Bad Burger: Signature juicy burgers drizzled with Gooey Sauce; optional double, triple or quadruple patties.
  • Boston Common: Local fresh seafood menu including fried clams, lobster roll, lobster bisque and clam chowder.
  • Garden Grill: Classic Boston sandwich menu that includes shaved steak roll with house made cheese sauce and fan favorite grilled chicken sandwich.
  • The North End Butcher: Kayem meats including an Italian sausage with peppers and onions and jumbo all-beef gourmet hot dogs.

I have been a New Kids on the Block fan since the beginning. I remember going to see them in concert at the old Foxboro Stadium (before they tore it down and built Gillette Stadium) as a teenager and it was one of my fondest memories of my teen years. The walls of my bedroom were covered in Donnie posters, because he’s the cute one after all, and you could definitely say that I had a mild obsession with the band.

Fast forward to today. The New Kids are just as popular today as they were back then – if not more so. Since they got back together and started touring, I’ve seen them live a few times and I can honestly say they’ve all gotten better with age.

If you’re a die-hard Blockhead, you know that every year they do a tropical cruise with their fans. It’s the vacation of a lifetime for a true fan and last year the reality show “Rock This Boat” on Pop TV followed along with the adventures that took place on the cruise. The 2nd Season of Rock This Boat is premiering this week. I’ve gotten a sneak peek at the new season and I think you’re going to like it. Continue reading »

Oktoberfest, the yearly German fall festival that draws in more than six million people, celebrates everyone’s favorite things: food, beer, and merrymaking. Although the official Oktoberfest celebration takes place in Munich, Bavaria, there are Oktoberfest celebrations held all over the world. Foxwoods® Resort Casino, the Northeast’s premier resort destination, is joining the party with month-long food and beverage offerings through October 31st.

Disclosure: I was invited to attend a wonderful Oktoberfest themed press event at Foxwoods® Resort Casino, but as always, all opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in any way.

Approximately a dozen bloggers and their plus ones met at Cedars Lounge, where we all started our evening with Oktoberfest beer tasting and social.

The bloggers invited were from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.  I loved that I got a chance to meet some new people and catch up with some old friends while I was at the event (That’s Sarah from Sweet Lil You and her husband Dave that Chris and I are talking to). Continue reading »

If you have ever heard of a “Cirque” show, you probably have an idea of what to expect during a show – especially if you watch America’s Got Talent.  But did you know that there are different “Cirque” groups?  Up until last week, I had no idea.  We’ve all heard of Cirque du Soleil, but for the last 20 years, Cirque Éloize has been taking people by storm in more than 440 cities around the world.

Cirque Éloize was founded in Montreal in 1993, over a decade after Cirque du Soleil and for the month of August, Cirque Éloize’s iD is playing at the Fox Theater at Foxwoods.

Cirque Éloize’s iD blends old-school acrobatics with street dance and hip hop. I got a chance to see the show last week and trust me, it’s not like any circus you’ve ever seen before.

But before I tell you what I thought of the show, I wanted to share a little bit about a fun opportunity I had the afternoon before the show.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have followed along with the fun last Friday when I joined several other local bloggers for an exclusive behind-the-scenes blogger workshop with some of the cast members of Cirque Éloize’s iD.

Pretty cool, right?

As soon as I entered the Fox Theater at Foxwoods,  I couldn’t help but notice the impressive set.  As you can see, it’s massive and as I would find out a little while later, it’s even more complex than it looks.  The set features about 10 doors & windows that the performers use throughout the show to come & go through – plus a quite a few moving parts. “Cocktails, brews, wine and appetizers with a view”

For great food and atmosphere, the Skiff Bar in Newport, RI is the place to be.  Located inside the Newport Marriott, the Skiff Bar is quickly becoming one of Newport’s most popular hangouts.

Skiff Bar Bar

Many of you know that my husband and I are frequent visitors to Newport.  We’re there several times a month (or more) and really enjoy spending time in the seaside community. We love everything about Newport. The beaches, the history, the shopping, and especially the food.

From what I gather (and I am only speaking from my own personal experience here), Newport seems to have a reputation as a pricey and sometimes even an exclusive place to eat out.  Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of casual restaurants throughout the city, but they seem to be a little harder to come by.

Enter the Skiff Bar.

**My family received tickets to see the New England Revolution at no charge in exchange for this post.  All opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in any way**

Recently, my family got the chance to head over to Gillette Stadium to watch the New England Revolution take on Toronto FC.  We were all really excited, especially since this was our first Revs game ever.

In case you’re unfamiliar with who the “Revs” are, the New England Revolution are our professional soccer team.  They play at Gillette Stadium, which is the same stadium that the New England Patriots play at.

My family was hosted by Santander Bank and we got to watch the game from the Santander Bank suite – along with a few other Boston area bloggers and their families.  The Revs mascot, Slyde, even stopped by to say hi to us during the first half of the game.

Before the game started, we got to go down to the field and watch the players warm up before the game. Continue reading »

I received compensation from McDonald’s in exchange for writing this review. Although this is a sponsored post, all opinions my own.

A few weeks back, I was invited, along with a few other area bloggers, to an exclusive behind-the-counter look at McDonald’s food quality.  At the “Open Door Tour” event,  I was given an in-depth restaurant and kitchen tour, a food demonstration, and had a chance to hear John Cisna, McDonald’s Brand Ambassador speak about making nutrition-minded food choices at McDonald’s and the importance of choosing balanced meals (he’s got a great story, too, so stay tuned).

mcdonalds1

I have to admit that I was really excited when I got this invitation.  I have never worked in the fast food industry, so I was really looking forward to seeing some of the behind the scenes kitchen operations.  On the tour, we spent some time at the McCafe station learning about the coffee, how they make their beverages and a few of my fellow bloggers got the chance to make their own smoothies.

Here’s a fun fact that I learned that day – did you know that once the bag of coffee is opened, it only has a 30 minute shelf life?  So when you get your coffee at McDonald’s, you can be guaranteed that it’s fresh.

We also got to see the grill area, the assembly line and a few of the employees exhibited how they use fresh ingredients when preparing menu items in a few food demonstrations. All of their produce and eggs are purchased locally and are the freshest of the fresh. Continue reading »

**I was invited on a sponsored press trip to the John Carver Inn’s Beach Plum Spa and WaterFire Tavern, but all opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in any way**

Recently I was invited to join three other area bloggers at the John Carver Inn in Plymouth, MA for a day of pampering at the Beach Plum Spa and some great food at the WaterFire Tavern.  I live in the area, so I have actually stayed at John Carver Inn before, but I had never had the chance to try out the spa or eat at the WaterFire Tavern, so I was excited to get the chance to experience both of those things for the first time.

The great thing about the John Carver Inn is that it’s a quaint, charming hotel that’s within walking distance of the Plymouth waterfront, shopping and attractions of historic Plymouth like the Plymouth Rock and Mayflower.

When we arrived at the John Carver, we got a tour of some of the rooms as well as the opportunity to go check out the Pilgrim Cove Indoor Theme Pool.  I have actually been to the pool with my kids before and it was a big hit with them. They ask to go back all the time.

After our tour, it was time to head to the Beach Plum Spa, located on the second floor of the hotel.

Linden Square

**Disclosure:  I attended a sponsored media event, but all opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in any way**

Last week I had the chance to meet up with a few fellow area bloggers and take a little stroll around some of the shops and boutiques at Linden Square in Wellesley. You’ve never heard of Linden Square?  Let me tell you a little bit about it!  Linden Square is a 250,000-square-foot shopping, dining and lifestyle destination located in the heart of Wellesley, MA and it’s only ten miles outside of Boston.  There are all sorts of fun shops, restaurants and services to choose from there.

Our first stop of the day was Roosters Men’s Grooming Center. At Roosters, you’re going to get charm and comfort of a classic barbershop, but it’s combined with barbers who are skilled in modern men’s haircuts and grooming techniques.  In order to demonstrate a little bit of what they do there at Roosters, we all had the opportunity to shave a balloon with a straight edge razor. Trust me, it wasn’t as easy as it looks. Continue reading »

Before we get started here, I need to take a minute to apologize for all the crappy photos you’re about to see.  The venue that the event in which I met the first love of my life the handsome Donnie Wahlberg in was very poorly lit and on top of that, I went to meet him armed only with my iPhone.  What kind of a so-called blogger goes to meet someone she’s swooned over for the last 25 years without an actual camera?

This girl.

But I digress……

Today I am going to tell you the story of how it all came about.

But first, let me give you the back story.

I love Donnie Wahlberg.  When New Kids on the Block first came out in the late 80’s they were probably a bigger deal here in Boston than in other places because as we all know, all of the New Kids are from here.  I was in junior high when they first popped onto the scene and every girl I knew loved them.  As everybody knows, Donnie Wahlberg was the cute one.  Not Jordan. Not Joey.  Certainly not Danny and not Jonathan.  It was Donnie. It has always been Donnie.

Swoon.

I remember seeing NKOTB in concert at the old Foxboro Stadium (before Gillette Stadium was built) during the summer of 1989 and at the time, it didn’t get any better. I was so far away from the stage that all I could see were five little dots singing and dancing on the stage, but I didn’t care….I was in the same venue as my celebrity crush.  Life was good.

Since their boy band reign in the late 80’s/early 90’s, the New Kids have broken up and as you probably know, have reunited.  I have gone to see them in concert three times over the past four years and if they tour again – I’ll be there.

But back to my crush on Donnie.  Even in the Sixth Sense, when he literally looked his worst, I still loved him.  Like I said, it has always been Donnie.  So fast forward twenty five years (to about three weeks ago) and this finds its way into my inbox:

I cried.  Literally. Continue reading »

dohvinci fun

Recently I was invited to The Paint Bar on Newbury Street in Boston, along with several other Boston area bloggers, to check out Hasbro’s new art experience: DohVinci.

Dohvinci Paint Bar Event

But what is DohVinci you ask? DohVinci, an entirely new art experience from the makers of Play-Doh, just launched and is an enjoyable and unique creative experience for kids and adults of all ages! Since the design compound sticks to other surfaces such as wood, glass, duct tape, and paper – the creative possibilities are endless!

We were given the chance to decorate some household items with DohVinci (chalkboards, picture frames and jewelry boxes).   Continue reading »

*My family and I were invited to this attend WWE’s Money in the Bank live pay per view event and received tickets at no charge. No other compensation was received. All opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in any way**

Back in March I chaperoned my youngest son’s class field trip to the aquarium.  On both the bus ride to the aquarium and the ride home, all the little boys talked about was wrestling.  John Cena this and Kane that.  It was really cute, but prior to that, I didn’t realize that my son knew anything about any of the WWE wrestlers.  When we got home that night I asked him about it and he sure schooled me.  He knew them all and talked my ear off for a good half hour about the WWE and mostly John Cena.

When my family received an invitation to attend the live pay-per-view (PPV) event, Money in the Bank on June 29, 2014 at the TD Garden in Boston, I knew it was going to be the highlight of my boys summer!

We arrived at the show about an hour before the event started and my boys were super excited when we got there and they saw the ring all set up!

WWE Money in the Bank PPV

At the beginning of the show, Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan made an appearance and gave the audience an update on his neck surgery recovery was going.  As soon as they announced his name, the crowd went insane.  They cheered him for a good couple of minutes and after everyone settled down, he told us that he didn’t know when he was going to return and that he actually might need to have another surgery. Recently, the boys and I headed over to Edaville USA in Carver, MA for the Grand Opening of the newest addition to the park, Dinoland!  In case you’ve never been, Edaville USA is a family fun amusement park located in South Carver, MA.  In addition to Dinoland, the park features train rides through picturesque cranberry bogs, vintage amusement rides, indoor and outdoor play spaces, and some newly acquired modern rides.

I grew up going to Edaville and was super excited that I was invited to attend the VIP grand opening of Dinoland!

logo-anniversary

I am a regular at my local Stop & Shop grocery store.  I have been going there for so long that I have the entire store mapped out in my head & make my shopping list by aisle, which allows me to blow in and out of the store in near record time.  HA!

But get this:  Now, when I don’t have the time to actually spend time in the store to do my shopping, I can do my shopping online and my groceries will be ready for me to pick up when I get to the store (after I select the pick up date & time of course).  Talk about a huge time saver.

Here’s how it all works:

Online shopping for Stop & Shop fulfilled by Peapod:

  • Shop online — browse or search the aisles to add items to your cart. Enter your Stop & Shop Card to shop from a list of items you’ve previously bought in the store.
  • Choose a location & pick-up time from the one-hour window that best fits your schedule. Submit and pay for your order.
  • Pick-up your groceries at the Pick-up Point location during the time slot you selected. An associate will greet you and have your groceries loaded into your car, all within 5 minutes.
  • Plus, you still get weekly specials, real deals, and earn A+ School Rewards and Gas Reward points. Use manufacturer coupons for additional savings!

I got a chance to try out Peapod’s new pick up service recently at the Stop & Shop in Quincy along with a few other local bloggers, so I can tell you based on my experience – it was pretty awesome to be able to have my items ready and waiting for me.  I sat down a few days before I wanted to pickup my groceries to place my order on Peapod.com and once all my items were added to my cart, I went through the checkout process, selected my date & time that I wanted to pick up and boom – I was done.

peapod pickup quincy

I think what I love the most about the pickup service is that I can shop for my groceries whenever and where ever I want.  All I need is internet access and I can sign into the site & place my order.  I am all for anything that makes my life a little easier! Continue reading »

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to attend an event put on by our local major league soccer team, The New England Revolution. The event was a fashion show, held at Royale Night Club in Boston, in which they would be unveiling their new 2014 team uniforms.

Before the fashion show started, there was a cocktail hour with the players, which gave fans a chance to grab some autographs and take pictures with their favorite players.  Here I am with Bobby Shuttleworth, Goalkeeper.
