The Chefs Competing in Boston’s First Culinary Fight Club Event.

Culinary Fight Club brings the passion of a high-energy kitchen and the thrill of a timed competition for you to enjoy. As a self proclaimed foodie and someone who is obsessed with cooking competition shows on the Food Network, it was amazing to be able to attend an event like this live and see the chefs in action with my own eyes.  No two events are the same, with new teams and themes every time, so you will definitely want to attend as many events as possible. I have been a New Kids on the Block fan since the beginning. I remember going to see them in concert at the old Foxboro Stadium (before they tore it down and built Gillette Stadium) as a teenager and it was one of my fondest memories of my teen years. The walls of my bedroom were covered in Donnie posters, because he’s the cute one after all, and you could definitely say that I had a mild obsession with the band.

Fast forward to today. The New Kids are just as popular today as they were back then – if not more so. Since they got back together and started touring, I’ve seen them live a few times and I can honestly say they’ve all gotten better with age.

If you’re a die-hard Blockhead, you know that every year they do a tropical cruise with their fans. It’s the vacation of a lifetime for a true fan and last year the reality show “Rock This Boat” on Pop TV followed along with the adventures that took place on the cruise. The 2nd Season of Rock This Boat is premiering this week. I’ve gotten a sneak peek at the new season and I think you’re going to like it. Continue reading »

Oktoberfest, the yearly German fall festival that draws in more than six million people, celebrates everyone’s favorite things: food, beer, and merrymaking. Although the official Oktoberfest celebration takes place in Munich, Bavaria, there are Oktoberfest celebrations held all over the world. Foxwoods® Resort Casino, the Northeast’s premier resort destination, is joining the party with month-long food and beverage offerings through October 31st.

Disclosure: I was invited to attend a wonderful Oktoberfest themed press event at Foxwoods® Resort Casino, but as always, all opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in any way.

Approximately a dozen bloggers and their plus ones met at Cedars Lounge, where we all started our evening with Oktoberfest beer tasting and social.

The bloggers invited were from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.  I loved that I got a chance to meet some new people and catch up with some old friends while I was at the event (That’s Sarah from Sweet Lil You and her husband Dave that Chris and I are talking to). Continue reading »

I have to apologize for the photo quality in advance.  The arena wasn’t well lit because of the show. Continue reading »

Before we get started here, I need to take a minute to apologize for all the crappy photos you’re about to see.  The venue that the event in which I met the first love of my life the handsome Donnie Wahlberg in was very poorly lit and on top of that, I went to meet him armed only with my iPhone.  What kind of a so-called blogger goes to meet someone she’s swooned over for the last 25 years without an actual camera?

This girl.

But I digress……

Today I am going to tell you the story of how it all came about.

But first, let me give you the back story.

I love Donnie Wahlberg.  When New Kids on the Block first came out in the late 80’s they were probably a bigger deal here in Boston than in other places because as we all know, all of the New Kids are from here.  I was in junior high when they first popped onto the scene and every girl I knew loved them.  As everybody knows, Donnie Wahlberg was the cute one.  Not Jordan. Not Joey.  Certainly not Danny and not Jonathan.  It was Donnie. It has always been Donnie.

Swoon.

I remember seeing NKOTB in concert at the old Foxboro Stadium (before Gillette Stadium was built) during the summer of 1989 and at the time, it didn’t get any better. I was so far away from the stage that all I could see were five little dots singing and dancing on the stage, but I didn’t care….I was in the same venue as my celebrity crush.  Life was good.

Since their boy band reign in the late 80’s/early 90’s, the New Kids have broken up and as you probably know, have reunited.  I have gone to see them in concert three times over the past four years and if they tour again – I’ll be there.

But back to my crush on Donnie.  Even in the Sixth Sense, when he literally looked his worst, I still loved him.  Like I said, it has always been Donnie.  So fast forward twenty five years (to about three weeks ago) and this finds its way into my inbox:

**Masshole Mommy received four complimentary tickets to see Blue Man Group in Boston in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in anyway**

Have you ever seen the Blue Man Group?  I recently had an opportunity to go see the show with my family and I don’t even think words can express how much we loved it.  I was super excited to take my family to see it.  I had seen the show three or four times in the past, but it was the first time seeing the show for my husband and boys.  Knowing them, I knew it was going to be a hit with all three of them and I was so happy that they all liked it even more than I thought they would.

Ok, so you’ve heard of Blue Man Group, but you’re not really sure what it’s all about, huh?  Well, it’s really hard to explain, so here’s what they say about the show on their website:

Blue Man Group combines music, technology and comedy to create a form of entertainment that defies categorization and appeals to people of all ages. Blue Man Group’s shows have been described by critics as “innovative,” “energetic” and “wildly entertaining.” But the only way to truly understand Blue Man Group’s global popularity is to see the show for yourself.

The show is about an hour and 40 minutes with no intermission, and it flew by.  I was shocked when I looked at my watch and saw that the show was nearly over.  Blue Man Group is fast moving and highly entertaining.  We were not bored for a second.  Honestly, if you are looking for something different to do with your family, check out the show – it’s very family friendly and so much fun! Because I have a small obsession with watching the news, mostly for the weather reports, I watch New England Cable News (NECN) often. It’s local (New England) and it’s 24 hour news station, so I can get my weather reports pretty much anytime I want.  The weather around here changes from day to day – literally – so we really don’t know how to dress unless we check with the weather people.  True story.

About three weeks ago, I got an email with “media request from New England Cable News” in the subject line.  I happened to be sitting on my laptop at the time the email came in and honest to god, I couldn’t have opened it any faster.

The email asked me if I would be interested in helping Leslie Gaydos, NECN anchor/reporter with one of her Does it Work segments. I was told that they were searching for a  multi-tasking mom to test out a device that is supposed to hold your smart phone while you drive.

Um, let me think about that for a second…..

YES.

I emailed them back telling them that I was very interested & we worked out a date for them to come to my house to film a short interview & then take the product out with us in the car to see how it worked.

Chris was home that day and here are a few of the pictures he snapped of the interview they did in my kitchen:
