By now you know that my hubby, Chris, and I have declared 2016 as the year of Robin and Chris. We decided that we were going to make this year all about trying new things and going on as many adventures as possible. The two of us had a lot of fun during the month of March & beginning of April and today I’m going to share some of the highlights.

Chris’s birthday was in January and I got him tickets to see Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage live in Boston.  It was an orchestra that played music from the show while some scenes from Star Trek films and TV footage was simultaneously beamed in high definition to a 40-foot wide screen.

By now you know that my hubby, Chris, and I have declared 2016 as the year of Robin and Chris. We decided that we were going to make this year all about trying new things and going on as many adventures as possible. The two of us had a lot of fun during the month of February and today I am going to tell you some of the highlights of the past month.

We started off February by going to a chili cook-off.  It was held as part of the Newport Winter Festival and we both ended up eating our weight in chili.  Seriously.  There were 10 competitors and not only did we try all ten, but we went back to at least three booths for seconds – and one booth was so good that we went back for thirds.

We basically rolled ourselves out of the Newport Hyatt (where the event was held) and went into food comas as soon as we got back home.  It was awesome.

I had gotten Chris tickets to see comedian Jim Norton for his birthday in January and we went into Boston to see the show about two weeks ago. Continue reading »

If you’re a regular around here, you already know that my husband, Chris, and I have declared 2016 as the year of Robin and Chris. We decided that we were going to make this year all about trying new things and going on as many adventures as possible. The two of us had a lot of fun during the first month of 2016 and today I am going to tell you some of the highlights of what we’ve done.

We started off the year by doing the Polar Bear Plunge in Newport, RI on New Year’s Day.  Chris and I only made it waist deep into the icy cold water, but I am good with that.  Frankly, it’s further than I thought we’d make it.  You can read all about our adventure in the arctic water here.

The same weekend we decided to check out the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, MA.  It just opened last year and it’s the first casino in Massachusetts.  Even though it’s only about 15 minutes from our house, we had never been (we always opted for the bigger casinos like Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun). Bookstore Scavenger Hunt

Today is a special day – it’s Chris’s 41st birthday!  Happy Birthday, Chris.

Since we had some alone time yesterday, I took him to do something fun in celebration of his birthday weekend. He loves to read & spend time at bookstores, so we went on a bookstore scavenger hunt.

It wasn’t as easy as it sounds, but it was a blast.  Oddly enough, we ran into each other after about an hour and 15 minutes & each of us only had one thing left to find – so it was neck in neck.  The good thing about something like this is that the answers are pretty subjective. Not only did we both end up winning since we finished at the same time, but there was one answer that neither of us could get (finding a book with exactly 394 pages. He found one with 395 and I found one with 393 – so we were both pretty darn close) – so we both had all the “right” answers.

If you want to head out on a bookstore scavenger hunt, too, just print these four pages out and you’ll have everything you need for a fun day with your main squeeze. Continue reading »

About a month or so ago, my hubby Chris came up with an awesome idea.  He said that we should make 2016 the year of Robin and Chris. He said that we should make it a year of trying new things and going on new adventures.  Most of you know this already, but for those of you who don’t – I am divorced from my boys father & since we share custody, Chris and I get a lot of alone time. Obviously, I thought that Chris’s idea was awesome (who wouldn’t?) and we have been brainstorming about ideas for new adventures ever since he dropped the idea.

Last weekend, he and I went out to dinner and as we were throwing out ideas of things that we wanted to do this year, I mentioned that it would be cool if we came up with our own hashtag and even more, had t-shirts made with said hashtag so that we could wear them all year long on our adventures.

And that’s what we did.

We both thought that we needed an epic adventure to start 2016 off right and when Chris suggested doing a Polar Plunge, I was totally on board.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to jump into the ocean in the middle of the winter, right?  They have Polar Plunges at tons of beaches around here, most of them requiring a donation to benefit some local charity. We decided to go to First Beach in Newport, RI because that’s the beach we go to all summer long. Their Polar Bear Plunge benefited A Wish Come True, a group that grants wishes for sick children.
