I can remember watching Scooby Doo when I was a kid and I am so happy that Scooby Doo is one of my own kids favorites all these years later. My kids will watch anything Scooby related, and when we were recently sent a copy of Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. “Crystal Cove Curse” to re view, we couldn’t get it into the dvd player fast enough.

Did you grow up watching The Smurfs?  I did.  I would sit with my sister every Saturday morning while we were growing up and patiently wait for them to come on.  These days, I’ve been known to watch The Smurfs with my own kids (on Boomerang).  When I heard that Warner Brothers Home Video released the The Smurfs Holiday Celebration DVD on October 4th of this year and that I was going to get a copy to review with my family, I was thrilled.

One of the shows I remember enjoying when I was growing up, was ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.  Every year my sister, brother and I would anxiously wait for it to come on tv.  Lucky for my kids, technology has advanced quite a bit and Warner Home Video just released the 1974 classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on Blu-Ray/DVD!   I know there are a lot of holiday classics out there, but for me, this is one of my absolute favorites and I was so excited to be able to watch it with my own children.

Growing up, Scooby Doo was one of my favorite cartoons.  I remember racing home from school so that I didn’t miss the 3 o’clock episode.  It didn’t matter if I had already seen it a hundred times – I would sit and watch it anyways.

I just love classic cartoons.  I remember being glued to the television after school and watching cartoons until dinner time when my mom told me that I’d had enough tv for the day.   I love that I am able to share so many of my childhood favorites with my kids.  We watch Boomerang and The Hub on a regular basis, so they are very familiar with many of the classics that I watched as a child.  One of my favorites was William Hanna and Joseph Barbera’s classic cartoon; Tom & Jerry – and don’t forget Droopy (my favorite character on the show)!

Growing up, I was a huge Tom & Jerry fan. I remember during summer vacations, I would have my mom call me in from playing outside when it was time for Tom & Jerry to come on because I didn’t want to miss it. Even though I think I saw every Tom & Jerry cartoon ever made – multiple times, I still didn’t want to miss it. So, I was absolutley thrilled when I found out that I would be receiving a copy of Warner Brothers newly released DVD - Tom and Jerry: Fur Flying Adventures to review with my own kids.

Synopsis: They’re at it again – hilariously – in a new and nutty 14-cartoon collection! In this corner, a perturbed pussycat. In the other corner, a mischievous mouse. Let the comedic mayhem begin with this menagerie of 14 fur-flying dust-ups. The tussling twosome travel through time (Guided Mouse-ille), to Europe (Neapolitan Mouse) and into space (O-Solar-Meow). And it’s two against one when Tom’s scaredy-cat cousin George comes to town in Timid Tabby. But Jerry comes out on top time and again in Pet Peeve, That’s My Mommy and Robin Hoodwinked. This collection’s classic cartoons starring your family’s longstanding favorite cat and mouse duo again prove that as their rivalry is neverending, so are the joy and the laughs they spark!

I’m super excited that Warner Brothers is bringing Tom & Jerry back so that a new generation can enjoy them as much we did back in the day.  My kids enjoyed watching this DVD as much as I did and I am so happy that I was able to share these classic characters with them.

Episode Guide:

• ”Barbeque Brawl”: The bulldog Spike and his son Tyke are trying to have a simple backyard barbeque, but Tom’s attempts to capture Jerry keep interfering with these plans.

• ”Happy Go Ducky”: Tom and Jerry receive an Easter basket containing an egg. Suddenly, an adorably obnoxious little duckling hatches. Furious at the problems caused by this new arrival, Tom attempts to think of ways to get rid of the little fella.

• ”Hic-Cup Pup”: Tom’s attempts to catch Jerry keep waking up Tyke and giving him the hiccups, forcing Spike to confront the hungry cat about all the noise.

• ”Little Quacker”: Tom kidnaps our beloved little duckling from his mother and begins preparations to turn his feathered friend into a scrumptious meal.

• ”Rock n’ Rodent”: In this charming piece, Jerry gets together with his pals for a little jam session and Tom unsuccessfully attempts to sleep through the noise.

• ”Neapolitan Mouse”: Tom chases Jerry through the streets of Italy. So exotic!

• ”Pet Peeve”: When money gets tight, the humans have to get rid of one of the pets. Predictably, Tom and Spike compete for their master’s affection. For some inexplicable reason, this widescreen short is given non-anamorphic treatment (particularly unusual given that the other widescreen shorts are delivered anamorphically).

• ”Pup on a Picnic”: Spike and Tyke attempt to go on a pleasant picnic, but Tom and Jerry manage to screw things up for those poor pooches once again.

• ”O-Solar-Meow”: Tom chases Jerry around on a spaceship.

• ”Robin Hoodwinked”: Royal Guard Tom attempts to stop Merry Mouse Jerry from rescuing the noble Robin Hood.

• ”Guided Mouse-ille”: The best thing about this science fiction-themed follow-up to “O Solar Meow” is the subtitle: “Science on a Wet Afternoon.” Otherwise, it’s another fun chase.

• ”Timid Tabby”: Tom attempts to protect his mouse-o-phobic Cousin George from being frightened by Jerry.

• ”The Vanishing Duck”: Another colorful confrontation between Tom and the little duckling (this time involving some vanishing cream).

• ”That’s My Mommy”: The hilariously dark short about a particularly suicidal duckling willing to sacrifice his life in order to make his “mommy” (that would be Tom) happy. This one never fails to make me laugh.

The Tom and Jerry: Fur Flying Adventures DVD was just released on Feb 8th and is available in stores now.  It’s available on Amazon right now for only $10.71, so you can pick up your copy today.

I’m a huge fan of Ricky Gervais!  I absolutely loved him in The Office on BBC, which is a show I could literally watch over and over again.  Then I heard that Ricky was doing an animated series called The Ricky Gervais Show on HBO, which sadly I wasn’t able to watch when they originally aired (I don’t have HBO).   If you’re like me and weren’t able to watch the show when it originally aired, you’re in luck because Warner Brothers just released The Ricky Gervais Show:  The Complete First Season on January 4th, 2011!

Synopsis: “From the creators of the smash-hit series The Office and Extras and based on the original record-breaking podcasts, comes the new animated comedy series, The Ricky Gervais Show. The series is an animated version of the original podcasts that earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most downloads. It is voiced by Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and colleague and friend Karl Pilkington whose offbeat musings inspire many of the storylines which include the merits of 20th century inventions; Karl?s suggestion for population control; how philosophy has evolved through the ages and not forgetting Karl?s perfectly round head”!

Lucky for me, the folks at Warner Brothers sent me a copy of The Ricky Gervais Show:  The Complete First Season to review and I loved it.  I didn’t realize this, but Ricky Gervais did a whole series of podcasts which is what spawned this show.  The entire animated series is based off of those podcasts, so if you’ve heard the podcasts, there is no new material other than the animations, but if you are as big of a fan of his work as I am, that won’t matter in the least.  This is funny stuff we’re talking about here and it definitley something that I could listen to more than once.  I found myself laughing so hard a few times that my eyes were watering and I had to pause the DVD.

The DVD runs for 390 minutes & contains thirteen half-hour episodes.  Plus there are a couple of bonus features.  If you like Ricky Gervais’s brand of humor, you are going to love this DVD collection!

Episodes:

1 – Space Monkey
2 – Knob At Night
3 – Charity
4 – Dolphins
5 – Glass Houses
6 – Cobblers
7 – The Diary
8 – Nuts
9 – The Jockey
10 – The Fight
11 – Beatles
12 – Noises
13 – Freaks

Special Features:

“Comedy Gala Animation”
“Episode Storyboard”

Season two of The Ricky Gervais Show premiers on January 14th at 9 pm, so don’t miss out!

Warner Brothers is about to release a brand-new, full-length animated adventure, Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes, which comes out on DVD on August 24th. I remember when I was a kid, I spent hours upon hours watching Tom & Jerry. I loved the silly situations they got themselves into to….and trying to get out of. When I was given the opportunity to review this new movie with some classic characters from my childhood, I jumped at it.

“Tom and Jerry set out on one of their biggest adventures yet when they
visit London to help solve a series of jewelry heists that leave Scotland Yard
completely befuddled and a beautiful singer named Red framed for the crimes.
However, it’s going to take one of history’s greatest fictional detectives,
Sherlock Holmes along with his loyal assistant Dr. Watson, to find the real
thief.

The renowned crime-fighting team is joined by another world-famous duo, the lovable, ever-squabbling Tom and Jerry. Little do they know that finding clues and cracking the case will be elementary compared to keeping the peace between the raucous cat and mouse as they scamper, scurry, scoot and speed along the streets, alleys and rooftops in the name of justice.

Tom and Jerry’s favorite pals, including Tuffy the mouse, Butch the dog, Droopy and others, round out the motley crew of characters and possible suspects in this brilliant fusion of classic detection and energetic animation”.

I sat down to watch Tom & Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes with both of my boys, who both absolutely loved it. We received this DVD about a week ago and have watched it at least 40 times since then. We’ve seen the commercial on Boomerang for this movie a few times, so as soon as I took it out of the package, my older son knew exactly what it was. Both kids are now obsessed with Tom, Jerry and especially Butch. The movie ran for just less than an hour, so it was just the right length to keep the kids occupied without them getting bored.

Remember, Tom & Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes is due to be released nationwide on 8/24 and will be available wherever Warner Brothers films are sold. You can pre-order this DVD on Amazon right now, though!

Big thanks to the folks at Warner Brothers for the opportunity to review Tom & Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes with my children. I love that they are re-introducing characters from my childhood to the next generation.
