That something was his super hero cape.

He hadn’t touched his cape in months, so I was surprised when he asked if he could bring it along.  I thought it was cute, but I figured he’d forget about it by the time we got to the store and that would be the end of it.

Nope.

He insisted on wearing it into the store.

He literally ran around the store the entire time “fighting crime”.   Silly kid.

Anyways, if by chance you happen to remember the post I wrote a few months back that included pictures of all my tats, you know that I had a yin-yang on my left shoulder blade.  I got it when I was in my early 20′s and I liked it, but I always felt that it could have been colored in a little better.  Since it was on my back and I couldn’t really see it, I never went back to have it touched up.  But every once in a while, I’d notice it in the mirror and think to myself that I’d like to have it re-colored…..someday.

Here’s what it looked like before:

I realize that it’s not the greatest picture (terrible lighting), but you get the idea.

I decided that I wanted to add something to it.  It’s about 2 inches in diameter and I really wanted to expand on it and I knew immediately what I wanted.  Sun rays.  There is a little sun (and moon) inside the yin-yang and I thought the sun rays would be perfect.  So, when I went into Illusions Ink (Middleboro, MA) this weekend to get the sun rays added, the shop owner suggested having the existing tat re-done because it was faded & would have looked weird with the new ink around it.  So that’s exactly what I had done and this is how it turned out:

In case you can’t quite make it out, it’s a pair of kickass sunglasses that I found in Cosmo. I ripped the page out, circled them, wrote “big hint” up at the top of the page and strategically left it right where Chris would find it.

And find it he did….

He got them for me for Mother’s Day and I love them.

He did real good.

Kids’ Planet is the perfect destinations for families attending this year’s event.  It’s an interactive area designed specifically with families in mind.  The Kids’ Planet stage will feature performances from Mister G,   Sarah Wheeler & Little Groove, RhymeZweLL   Vanessa Trien & the Jumping Monkeys and student performers from Zumix.  Music on the Kids’ Planet Stage will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Whole Foods is the presenting sponsor of Radio 92.9 EarthFest and they are bringing a host of activities to Kids’ Planet.  They will have a mural traced on recycled cardboard and children will paint it throughout the day.  There will also be face painting, a snack table,  Also taking place in Kid’s Planet will be a mural painting, face painting, photos wil Kailee and Cauliflower, a snack table, and bubbles.

Throughout the event, a host of non-profit and environmental organizations will help build awareness of things individuals can do to make a difference for Mother Earth.  Metech Recycling will have a Electronics Shredder onsite to dispose of unused and old hand held electronics.  Everyone who brings one to their booth will be entered to win a new flat screen tv.  Also onsite will be The Whole Foods Pavilion  where two dozen companies will  sample earth-friendly products along with demonstrations and other interactive activities; The MBTA will have a Hybrid Bus Display on site and MassBike will offer a Free Bike Valet.   Attendees shouldn’t forget to visit  the Eco-Pavilion where dozens of local environmental groups and agencies will be on-site to educate attendees on how to be green; and Casella Waste Systems will manage a  comprehensive recycling program onsite.

On the main stage, music begins at 11:30.  Bands performing this year include Third Eye Blind, Switchfoot, Eve 6 and Spin Doctors.  For more information, visit www.EarthFest.com.

Because the Radio 92.9 EarthFest is expected to draw a crowd of more than 100,000 people, attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the free bike valet service offered by MassBike or use public transportation. The DCR Hatch Shell is accessible by MBTA. Concertgoers can take the Green Line to Arlington Street or take the Red Line to Charles Street / MGH.

I received an Aerobie AeroSpin yo-yo to review and I have to say that it is a pretty solid yo-yo.  I have been playing with yo-yos for many years and this one is unlike any of the other yo-yo’s I’ve ever owned.  The shape of it makes it very comfortable to grip and the internal ball bearing action is very smooth. This is a very good quality yo-yo.  My kids and I have been having a blast with it since we received it last week.

In The Fire Island Cookbook, food, wine, and travel writers Mike DeSimone and Jeff Jenssen have put together a mouthwatering collection of meals using seasonal produce, one for each weekend from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Each of the fourteen menus is influenced by the authors’ travels in Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Mexico, and Hungary, and includes course-by-course wine pairings. Every chapter features recipes for a full menu from appetizer to dessert, with wines to match. While some dishes are designed to be prepped in the morning, ignored all day while the cooks are at the beach, and then grilled and arranged as guests arrive, others are a little more elaborate, perfect for the weekend that would otherwise be ruined by rain. Meals can be prepared by one or two dedicated chefs, or divided up among everyone, with each person contributing a course.

As a busy mom, I love that some of the meals are designed to be prepared in the morning and left all day so that I can take the kids out for the day.  The recipes in this book are simple, yet delicious.  As of now, I’ve only had a chance to try one of the recipes, the Cinnamon Carmelized Gnocchi (and yes it was as good as it sounds), but I am determined to make all of the recipes in this book.  Maybe not this summer, but at some point.  I read through it and I don’t think there is even one recipe that didn’t make my mouth water just reading it.

So if you’re planning to entertain your friends and family this summer, I highly recommend that you check out The Fire Island Cookbook for some delicious, mouth-watering recipes!
