I wanted to share some tips on how to make sure you get a good nights sleep. I know it’s not easy for a lot of us, but it definitely can be done. Regardless of your sleep pattern now, I want to share some ways to really help make sure that when you go to sleep you can sleep more soundly and get a good nights sleep.

Here are 5 some ways to really help make sure that when you go to sleep you can sleep more soundly and get a good nights sleep once and for all!

Set a Routine
Setting a routine for going to bed is a great way to get your body used to go to sleep at a certain time. It also will allow you to help monitor how many hours you are getting a night. I like to aim to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Try to limit screen time on your tablet, phone or other devices an hour before bed. Be consistent in when you lay down for the night, to help you learn to fall asleep faster. If you are not super tired when you lay down, read a book (that always makes me tired) or listen to soothing music.

Wind Down
Your body needs time to transition into the sleep mode. So try to relax before you head off to bed. Take a warm bath, read a book or do some journaling. Find ways to relax without playing on your phone or television. If you are a person that reads eBooks just turn the brightness down on the screen so it doesn’t overstimulate you.

Here are 5 some ways to really help make sure that when you go to sleep you can sleep more soundly and get a good nights sleep once and for all!

Reduce Napping During the Day
Power naps can be beneficial, but when you take long naps during the day, it could cause you to sleep worse at night. Sleeping in the daytime can confuse your internal body clock, so when you take a long nap during the day, your body fights to stay up. So if you are a napper try smaller naps in the day, to see if that helps you get better quality sleep at night.

Clearing Your Mind
Sometimes our minds are what keep us up at night. Try to find a way to relax and let go of all the to-do list running through your mind. There are so many relaxation techniques out there that you might find one that really helps you. Deep breathing, meditating, visualization, are all great ways to really clear your mind of your life. Try not to let the stress consume you, when thoughts come into your mind, transition them to calming or positive thoughts.

Restful Environment
Make sure that your room is a good place to lay down for the night. Make sure it is nice and dark, the temperature is right, you have a fan or sound machine running for a light noise. Also, make sure your bed is comfortable. We spend so much time sleeping a night, we need to make sure our mattress is comfortable, we have supportive pillows, and the right amount of blankets.

These are great tips. I have to make sure I get away from any sort of screen about an hour before bed, or I will not sleep.

I will try any tips that will help me sleep. I have insomnia so I have a hard time sleeping. One of the things I am considering is a new mattress. The one we have is extremely old and I’m wondering if that makes a difference.

We just got a new mattress, and what a difference. I have so much trouble sleeping well at night, and I have just started using lavender essential oil in my diffuser at night.

I have to make myself wind down. That means, phone down, distractions put away, and nothing else but sleep on the mind. I often turn on cartoons, as funny as that might sound.

These are some great tips. I try a lot of these too. It can be hard at times to get good sleep.

A good mattress makes such a difference! I slept on a crappy futon for years and after we got married my husband and I bought a new mattress and it was like night and day. We’re looking to buy a king mattress when we move into our new home.

Moms are the worse people about sleep! We can create the best conditions but we don’t actually follow our own advice! Sleep is so important to everything and getting those 8 hours isn’t a luxury but absolutely necessary!

I definitely try to have a routine, but sometimes I get caught up blogging haha. I love relaxing with tea before getting into bed and reading. And having a clean and uncluttered room has totally helped. It’s just so stressful otherwise!

I know I do need a new mattress. Ours is old and not as comfy as it once was. I also try to clear my mind so I’m able to sleep–sometimes that’s easier said than done!

I used to struggle with getting a good night sleep. When I finally followed some of the things you recommended like setting a routine and slowly clearing my mind, it’s been a little bit better. I’ve often wondered if my mattress may play into that too.

I have the hardest time sleeping, and I’ll admit I don’t usually give myself the proper time to wind down. I usually jump off the computer and try and go straight to bed. Maybe I’ll try some of the other tips you listed, thank you!

Turning off the tv and placing the phone on the charger on the far end of the room are ways to help me wind down and get a better night’s sleep.

I need to share this with my husband. He has the absolute worst sleep patterns. Every night he wakes up around 1am and 2am and it drives me nuts as I am a light sleeper, and pretty much wake up with him when he does. Great tips here.

Funny how we spend so much time making sure the kids have a bedtime routine, but I don’t have much of one for myself. It is pretty much a matter of getting through the day and flopping into bed! Your mattress sounds so nice, I really need a new one myself.

  45. Heather says

    October 25, 2017 at 9:07 am

I find that reading before bed definitely helps me. We are actually looking at getting a new mattress though because my husband has been waking up with back pain. We will definitely check this out!

  46. HilLesha says

    October 25, 2017 at 10:16 am

With three kids and an overwhelmingly busy schedule, it doesn’t really take much for me to fall asleep anymore. I’m usually out the moment my head hits the pillow! It does help having a good mattress like this one, though. Nothing ruins a good night’s sleep like an uncomfortable bed.
