**Masshole Mommy received four complimentary tickets to see Blue Man Group in Boston in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in anyway**

Have you ever seen the Blue Man Group?  I recently had an opportunity to go see the show with my family and I don’t even think words can express how much we loved it.  I was super excited to take my family to see it.  I had seen the show three or four times in the past, but it was the first time seeing the show for my husband and boys.  Knowing them, I knew it was going to be a hit with all three of them and I was so happy that they all liked it even more than I thought they would.

Ok, so you’ve heard of Blue Man Group, but you’re not really sure what it’s all about, huh?  Well, it’s really hard to explain, so here’s what they say about the show on their website:

Blue Man Group combines music, technology and comedy to create a form of entertainment that defies categorization and appeals to people of all ages. Blue Man Group’s shows have been described by critics as “innovative,” “energetic” and “wildly entertaining.” But the only way to truly understand Blue Man Group’s global popularity is to see the show for yourself.

The show is about an hour and 40 minutes with no intermission, and it flew by.  I was shocked when I looked at my watch and saw that the show was nearly over.  Blue Man Group is fast moving and highly entertaining.  We were not bored for a second.  Honestly, if you are looking for something different to do with your family, check out the show – it’s very family friendly and so much fun!

For families looking for fun activities during school vacation week, Blue Man Group is providing a week full of extras that are guaranteed to occupy youngsters and earn parents the “Coolest Parent Ever” title.

Blue Man Group's 20th Anniversary Reunion Show

Families can spend an afternoon at the newly renovated Charles Playhouse (74 Warrenton Street, Boston MA) where friendly staff members are ready and waiting in the lounge to decorate youngsters in true Blue Man style with free face painting services before select performances.

Players from the NE Revolution and the Boston Breakers will be joining us as well! Come meet and greet with the athletes before the select shows.

The newly transformed lounge features a brand new interactive music and light installation created by Blue Man Group, called the “Lounge-U-Lum”. Kids and parents will have hours of delight creating sound and light scapes with this revolutionary new instrument.

Before or after the show, Kids Eat FREE at MJ O’Connors, (Park Plaza location), if you show your Blue Man Group ticket. The menu covers all the kid-friendly favorites including Mac & Cheese, Chicken Fingers, and Mini Burgers. One free kid’s meal per each adult meal purchased (sandwich, entrée or salad).  Make your reservations here.

Full Schedule Listed Below. All activities are free for ticket holders. For more information and tickets click here.

Monday, 4/21: Free Face Painting prior to the 4:30pm show
Tuesday, 4/22: Free Face Painting prior to the 4:30pm show
Special Appearance by NE Revs player Charlie Davies
Wednesday, 4/23: Free Face Painting prior to the 1:30pm show and 4:30pm show

ALL WEEK – Kids eat free at MJ O’Connor’s when you show your Blue Man tickets

Introducing the “Lounge-U-Lum”, an Interactive Installation

The recent renovation of the historic Charles Playhouse, home of Blue Man Group, has upgraded the patron experience in a variety of ways. One of the most unique new aspects of the building is a one-of-a-kind video, sound and photography installation designed and created by Blue Man Group featuring “The Lounge-U-Lum”, a dynamic interactive music and video interface.

The new installation brings the audience a tactile experience in the exploration of life force. The new design features electronic instrumentation mixed with sophisticated animation and handmade craft – designed to inspire creativity before the show and well beyond the stage.
Patrons are immersed in a dynamic audio visual environment that evolves and morphs as they arrive and ascend through the building en route to the performance space. The four primary elements that constitute the installation are:

  • Video panels projecting an abstracted flow of color and image
  • Original soundtracks for each discreet space (there is even a bathroom song)
  • High resolution, object-oriented photographs that capture tools and miscellanea from the Blue Man Group show and unique backstage environment
  • And the feature piece, “The Lounge-U-Lum” – an array of interactive panels with playable paddles that allow patrons to generate their own unique video and sound experience

The interactive Lounge-U-Lum experience is free for patrons of Blue Man Group and the Charles Playhouse to enjoy.  My boys had a blast playing with it & I think it’s awesome that they have this to keep the kids busy while they wait for the show.

After the show was over, we got a chance to meet a Blue man & have our picture taken:

Blue Man Group plays at the Charles Playhouse, which is located at 74 Warrenton St in Boston (in the theater district).

Have you ever seen the show?  If so, what did you think?

I never even heard of this group but they sure so sound interesting! What a great idea to have panels that kids can play with creating their own sound combos–much better to my way of thinking them the usual games you normally see! As an aside-I hope that is non toxic paint or rubber they are wearing!!
