It’s finally FOOTBALL season and the New England Patriots season kickoff is THIS Sunday, September 9th at 1 pm! The season kickoff is always special for us because it’s the start of 4 months of rooting for our team together as a family! We are huge Patriots (Pats) fans in our family and love to celebrate game day with lots of great snacks!
We always have munchies like chips, pretzels and other sweets on hand to snack on throughout the game, but this year for the Patriots kickoff this weekend, we got an amazing officially licensed NFL cake at Stop & Shop! How cool is this Patriots cake (please pardon the smudge on the bottom left – we had a little snafu at checkout).
My boys just about flipped their lids when I got home from Stop & Shop and they saw the cake. I mean, who wouldn’t be impressed with a cake like this? But that wasn’t the only thing we had to celebrate kickoff 2018!
One thing I make every single game day is a family favorite: Game Day Punch. This two ingredient punch recipe seriously couldn’t be easier to make and the kids love it. My mom always made this fun, fizzy punch on special occasions for my sister, brother and I when we were kids. I have so many memories of drinking it at family parties growing up and now my kids will, too.
All you have to do is buy a bottle of your favorite fruit punch and some lemon-lime soda. Pour them both into a bowl, chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes and that’s it. If you want to get fancy, you can add a scoop of sherbet to the bowl, but my kids don’t like that, so I don’t.
I happened to have had a few mason jars laying around, so I decided to make them into football mason jars to serve our Game Day Punch in. I went into my hubby’s tool box and found some electrical tape, which is what I used to make the football pattern out of.
I put one long piece down the center of the jar and then cut pieces in half to make the little lines across.
They were really easy to make and I thought they would make a really cute addition to our celebration. Once my Game Day Punch was ready after chilling in the fridge, I served it in our homemade football mason jars. The kids loved them!
If you want to celebrate the upcoming football season like we did, check out your local Stop & Shop bakery for officially licensed NFL cakes today. It’s a perfect way to make kickoff 2018 (or any game day) extra special.
