Now that summer is in full swing here in the Boston area, I wanted to remind you to add seeing the Wicked BIG Bugs at the Franklin Park Zoo to your list of things to do with the kids. If your kids are bug lovers, your family will love this amazing display of gigantic bugs.
While you’re there, you will get a chance to see larger-than-life animatronic insects such as the red-tailed bumblebee, Mexican red knee tarantula, Madagascan sunset moth, meadow grasshopper, emperor scorpion, and a a bunch of others. There is information at each bug so that you and your kids can learn about them, too!
Wicked BIG Bugs is a little ways into to zoo, so you’ll have a chance to explore the zoo on your way. Once you are in the exhibit, you will be able to follow the path along and don’t worry, you will be able to take photos with all of them.
Don’t miss out on seeing Wicked BIG Bugs because it’s only here until September 2nd. Stop by and visit on weekdays from 10:30 am – 4:30 pm and on weekends from 10:30 am – 5:30 pm. The price to visit the Wicked BIG Bugs is $2 Member/Non-Member in addition to the general admission price and you can purchase them right at the admissions booth.
In addition to Wicked BIG Bugs, there are some other fun bug-themed events happening at Franklin Park Zoo this summer, including:
- Breakfast with the Wicked BIG Bugs where you can enjoy a continental breakfast while learning all about these small but mighty creatures. You’ll meet an animal ambassador up close and get an exclusive tour of the Wicked BIG Bug exhibit before the Zoo opens!
- Wicked BIG Bug Overnight where you will get a chance to trek through the BIG Bug exhibit trail to meet some giant friends by moonlight! Learn about why bugs are so important to our ecosystem, and meet a few smaller bug friends up-close.
To learn more about both of these programs and for more information on Wicked BIG Bugs, visit www.zoonewengland.org/wickedbigbugs.
I can’t recommend seeing the Wicked BIG Bugs enough. The Franklin Park Zoo is a wonderful zoo as it is, and this exhibit is like the icing on the cake. You will be in for such a great day with your family – and pack a lunch so you can spend the whole day! When you do go, tag me in your Instagram pics because I would LOVE to see them!
