May 7th is Teacher's Appreciation Day. Show your kids teachers how much you appreciate them with this simple, but fun gift idea.

Hey, did you know that today is Teacher’s Appreciation Day? I have always said that teachers have one of the hardest jobs there is.  I have been volunteering in both of my kids classrooms for years now!  My oldest son is a freshman and while I don’t volunteer in his class anymore (because he would never be caught dead), I have been volunteering since he was in kindergarten – and that’s a long time! I have literally volunteered every year since then.  Guys, that was 10 years ago!

Having spent so much time in the different classrooms over the years, I have seen what goes on first hand, I can personally attest to the fact that it’s NOT easy. Between super long days (sometimes they stay until 6 or 7 pm making photo copies for the next day), difficult kids, deadlines, standardized testing prep and actually teaching the required curriculum – I don’t know how some of them do it. Seriously. Continue reading »

If you're in need of a fun and easy St. Patrick's Day craft idea, look no further than these Leprechaun Rocks.

St. Patrick’s Day will be here before you know it – it’s already less than a month away.  When my boys were little, they always loved it when I pull out our craft bucket because it always meant something fun was about to happen! Making Leprechaun Rocks was one of those fun things we made every year and today I want to show you how to make them.  They are super easy to make and the kids always love them (because who doesn’t love anything covered in glitter?). If you’re in need of a fun and easy St. Patrick’s Day craft idea, look no further than these Leprechaun Rocks.

These DIY Christmas Tree Ornaments are an easy way to make some fun new ornaments for your tree this year. Get creative and decorate them however you like!

My Christmas tree is pretty eclectic. It’s filled with homemade ornaments and ornaments we’ve picked up along the way during our travels. I love that we bring out our crazy mix of ornaments year after year and the whole family loves to reminisce when we pull each one out.  Since many of our ornaments are from places we’ve traveled, they are not all “Christmasy” necessarily.  I decided to make a few DIY Christmas Tree Ornaments to add into our collection this year and I think they will fit in perfectly with the homemade ornaments we have.

If you are looking for a festive DIY Christmas decoration, try making a Painted Clothespin Wreath! It's easy to make, doesn't cost much & seriously cute.

I love everything about Christmas. The music, the decorations, the shopping, the parties…..I love every bit of it. Speaking of Christmas decorations, I have more than the average person. I have a weakness when it comes to decorating my house for Christmas and year after year I keep adding to the collection.  Lately I have been into making homemade decorations. When I helped clean out my parent’s attic after my mom passed, I ended up walking out with a bunch of stuff that I saved from going to the dump. One of the things I saved was a bag of clothespins and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.  Make a Painted Clothespin Wreath. I’ve seen them all over the internet and I was excited to make one of my own.

Painted Clothespin Wreath

Here’s what you need:

  • 58 clothes pins
  • 10 inch single wire wreath form
  • Green Paint – or paint of your choice
  • Foam Paint Brush

1. Paint the faces of each clothes pin. Continue reading »

If you want to get creative with your kids school Halloween celebration, these easy Halloween Classroom treats (with free printable) are perfect for you!

Back when I was a kid I always looked forward to holiday parties/celebrations at school. If I remember correctly, back in elementary school we had them for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day (and maybe one or two more but I’m old so the details are a little hazy). Everyone in the class would bring in a treat and we’d usually spend the last hour or so of the day celebrating. It was always so much fun and I feel a little sad for my kids that they will never experience that joy.

The school system in our town chose to ban all outside food due to food allergies. And I get it, I really do. I have a niece with a peanut allergy, so I am used to making peanut free treats when I go to family parties, but some people just aren’t as good about it – so our schools take the better safe than sorry approach and ban all shared foods from coming in. And because of that, there really aren’t celebrations like I had when I was a kid, but Halloween is coming up and I just CAN NOT resist these Halloween Classroom treats. Continue reading »

If you are hosting a Halloween party this year or just even want a fun decoration for your house, try this Easy Dollar Store Glowing Pumpkin Craft.

I was at the dollar store the other day and saw these cute little glass candle holders.  I am more of a candle that comes in a jar kind of person, so I knew I would never use the candle holders to burn candles in.  That left me wondering what I could do with them and then the light bulb went off. I knew I could make a fun glowing pumpkin craft with some orange twinkle lights. I grabbed some black craft paper and ended up making this Easy Dollar Store Glowing Pumpkin Craft with my supplies.  I am absolutely in love with how it came out and it literally only took me about three minutes to put it together.

It’s finally FOOTBALL season and the New England Patriots season kickoff is THIS Sunday, September 9th at 1 pm! The season kickoff is always special for us because it’s the start of 4 months of rooting for our team together as a family! We are huge Patriots (Pats) fans in our family and love to celebrate game day with lots of great snacks!

If you want to celebrate the upcoming football season in a fun way, check out your local Stop & Shop bakery for officially licensed NFL cakes today.

We always have munchies like chips, pretzels and other sweets on hand to snack on throughout the game, but this year for the Patriots kickoff this weekend, we got an amazing officially licensed NFL cake at Stop & Shop! How cool is this Patriots cake (please pardon the smudge on the bottom left – we had a little snafu at checkout). Continue reading »

This patriotic lip balm is easier to make than you think. It makes a great party favor, too!

We’re having some people over for a cookout on the 4th of July and when I have people over, I like to send my guests home with a little parting gift. I just think it’s fun to have little party favors, don’t you? This year I am making some Patriotic Lip Balm for my guests. The winters here in New England can be brutally cold and everyone can use some lip balm for their dry lips. But since I made them for the 4th of July, I wanted to make them festive – so I did. I was really happy with the way they came out and I know that my guests are going to love them.

Guess what? You CAN play with your food. Make up a batch of this Edible Sour Gummy Worm Silly Putty and you can have a ton of fun playing with it and eating it!

I have a child with sensory issues, so he loves to play with putty/play dough type things.  It just so happens that the same child is obsessed with sour things, so when I made this Edible Sour Gummy Worm Silly Putty, he just about flipped his lid. It’s wicked easy to make and super fun to play with (and eat)!

This easy Easter Egg Slime recipe is good for hours of sensory fun! Make as many colors as you like and have a blast mixing & matching.

My boys are super into slime, so we make it A LOT in our house. I never mind making it because I know it is going to keep them occupied for a while and more importantly, keep them off of their screens. Since Easter is coming up, I decided to make some Easter Egg Slime. There isn’t really anything different about this slime. It’s the same slime recipe that I usually make, but in the spirit of Easter I put into some plastic Easter eggs instead of a regular old plastic food storage container like I would normally use. The boys both thought it was cool that I put the slime inside Easter eggs and yay for cool mom points. Right?

If you hear "I'm bored" A LOT, make an “I’m Bored” Chore Jar so that every time your kids say it, you can give them something to do! Believe me, it works and it's super easy to make.

Here in Massachusetts, we are just getting back to school from February vacation. I know that school breaks are different in other parts of the country, but here we have a week off at Christmas, a week in February and another week in April. My kids are a bit older, so I hear “I’m bored” A LOT. So I decided to make an “I’m Bored” Chore Jar so that every time they said it, I was able to give them something to do! Guys, it works and it’s super easy to make.

If your child enjoys play dough, try making this homemade Rainbow Play Dough next time. It's easy to make and sure to be a big hit!

Having a child with sensory issues has been a learning experience for me. Because of his ADHD, he fidgets a lot and one thing we’ve found that he really likes to work with is play dough. He usually just squishes it around in his hands, which really seems to help him regulate himself, so I make my own play dough for him fairly often. I have experimented with different ingredients, colors and add-ins (think glitter), but recently I made some Rainbow Play Dough because well, I like rainbows and thought it would be cool to have a bunch of vibrant colors for him to play with.

Are you looking for something fun to do? Try a ceramic class! They are making a comeback and it's perfect for all skill levels.

Are you looking for something fun and creative to do? Look no further. I consider myself a pretty crafty person. I scrapbook and crochet, though I don’t have time to do them now that I am in grad school. The one thing I can make time for is my weekly ceramics class. I know, I know……your grandma or your mom used to take ceramics. People look at it as an old lady thing to do, but this class is honestly my sanity some weeks.

I discovered this class completely by accident while attending the Boston Christmas a little over a year ago. There was a ceramics booth with finished products, but one item caught my eye – the ceramic Christmas tree. You know the one I’m talking about – our moms all had one when we were growing up. They have made a huge comeback in the last few years. Then I saw the big ceramic lighthouse that was way out of my price range but was gorgeous (I have a slight obsession with lighthouses). I began talking with the shop owners and they told me I could paint one of my own. Well sign me up!

Are you looking for something fun to do? Try a ceramic class! They are making a comeback and it's perfect for all skill levels.

This is not your Grandma’s ceramic class. We have all ages in our class – our youngest student is 15. We are all very different, but it is like a little family. It’s 2.5 hours of painting, laughing, and therapy. The owner and instructor, Dale, is so talented and helpful. You can tell that she truly loves what she does. In fact, this is her retirement job. She has a huge assortment of pieces and even if you think you have no talent for painting, with her direction you will create amazing pieces. We all made Christmas gifts for our loved ones, and everyone loved them. Prices are SO reasonable ($10 a class or $32 for the month plus the cost of the piece, and some pieces take several weeks to complete). Continue reading »

When I was a kid I loved exchanging valentines with my classmates in school. I ended up making these adorable Printable Dinosaur Valentine’s Day Cards this year and I am super happy with the way they came out.

I just adore sugar scrubs. My poor skin gets so dried out in the winter time and I have always found homemade sugar scrubs really help to revitalize my skin. Plus, depending on the ingredients you use, they smell amazing. Since it’s that time of the year, I decided to make a Valentine’s Day Sugar Scrub recently.  I didn’t get too crazy with the scents (this one is just vanilla scented), but it sure looks festive and pretty for Valentine’s Day. My favorite part is that sugar scrubs are so easy to make. They are ready in minutes so you can spend the day making all different kinds of scrubs, or just have this one ready to go in no time.
