Ok, so maybe it’s not world famous, but it is mighty tasty.

Have I mentioned that Chris and I are addicted to Mexican food?  We’ve both always loved it, but when we were in Old Town San Diego last April and had a taste of the most amazing Mexican food that either one of us has ever tried, we just can’t seem to get enough.

We were at a local Mexican restaurant not too long ago and got table-side guacamole (which is where they come make it fresh at your table) and we watched carefully as the guac was made so that we could replicate the recipe at home.  And that’s just what we did.  Now Chris makes guac for us at home all the time!

Here’s what goes into it:

He starts by scooping the insides of the avocado into a bowl:

Once the avocado was scooped out, he mashed it up and added a couple of chopped cloves of garlic.

Next up, Chris chopped and added an onion:

Then, he chopped up the outside of a couple of tomatoes & mixed them in.

Lastly, he added a little salt & pepper and then mixed everything together.

Of course, we serve it with chips.

And that’s it. Easy peasy. Have you ever made your own guacamole?

  1. Also I like to add sour cream in my bowl for added taste. Muy Bueno

  2. The one thing I miss most about living in Texas and California is good Mexican food. Growing up in Texas, I was spoiled by the amazing TexMex cuisine, and I am now a bit of a “Mexican food snob”!

  3. Love the picture of Chris cutting onions. Is he really crying? Cause boy the other day I was chopping onions and my eyes were tearing up so bad! Gosh! Anyway, thanks for this easy recipe. I LOVE guacamole but never had it made at our table at a restaurant. Looks awesome!

  4. Looks easy and delicious. Totally pinned when we want to make guacamole again. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  5. Haha, look at his face chopping the onion! He’s too funny. I haven’t had guacamole in a long time, but this is pretty simple to make so I’ll have to give it a go sometime.

  6. I have not, but my son’s mother-in-law does and it’s so delicious homemade!!

  7. I make it all the time. Nothing like fresh. I only buy Vidalia or Red onions in my house, since I’m as big of a cry baby as Chris when it comes to cutting the regular ones. I add a squeeze of lime to mine too (keeps it from browning, and I’m the only one in my house that eats it).

  8. I just LOVE fresh guacamole and it is really easy to make.

  9. Nothing like some great guac. And a husband that cooks is a keeper for sure!

  10. Chris makes guac like my hubby. Lots of extras in there. Nothing like it in the world when its fresh!

  11. looks really good! I could go for some right now, except that I have zero of the ingredients. not even an onion in this house

  12. I LOVEEEEEE fresh homemade guacamole. I could eat a whole bowl on my own. It’s just THAT delicious. This looks amazing and probably tastes as good as it looks with all those fresh ingredients.

  13. I think it’s been years since I made some, but yes, I’ve made it. The boyfriend doesn’t like guac so now I don’t get to have it much. Boo hiss.

  14. that’s how i make mine! i’ve only been eating it for 5 years. i used to hate it!!

  15. I need a good guac recipe. lol I havent found one that I like yet.

  16. I’m very boring with my guac. I like a little onion and LOTS of tomatoes. It’s simple, but people clean it out at a party!

  17. I really enjoy guacamole. It has to be chunky, though. This looks like a great recipe, will have to try it. Thanks.

  18. In all seriousness.. I like how he cuts the tomato! I can never cut a tomato and make it look pretty! Now I have learned something.. I would also love to compare San Diego’s mexican food to San Antonio’s Mexican food! We moved down here a few years ago and could not get enough.. our bellies got enough.. hence the growing size of them!

  19. We are big Mexican food eaters in our house as well. We make guac all the time, and it’s my absolutely favorite ‘snack’. My sister also makes homemade salsa, so the combo of them both – yum! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

  20. I love avocado! I can eat them with a spoon. Your guacamole is like I make it..if I have it I add cilantro. Yum!

  21. I love that it has tomatoes in it. I can’t catch on to the avocado craze, I just don’t like it!!

  22. Oh wow! That guacamole looks amazing! I first tried an avocado a couple of years ago and I like eating them sliced on sandwiches. I’ve not tried to make guacamole yet but this recipe sounds simple and delicious — pinning for later!

  23. I’ve never made guacamole. My husband loves it, though.

  24. We have a restaurant here that makes fresh guac at your table if you want them to. I’ve never though to carefully watch them so we can replicate it.

  25. Fresh guacamole is so good! Plus, it’s one of the most nutritious snacks you can have. We all love it in my family.

  26. This sounds great. I shared your recipe with my followers!

  27. Yummy, we love good guacamole! I can’t wait to try this recipe!

  28. I love Mexican food and I loooove guacamole! You’re so lucky your husband makes it for you! I usually make my own using an Ina Garten recipe but I’ll have to try this one out.

  29. Rick is from San Diego and says that all the time about the Mexican food. He always is complaining about living here in WA and the Mexican food. LOL

    I love Guacamole!

  30. LOVE guacamole! I like to eat it with chips or I also mix it with some rice, black beans and corn. YUM-O!

  31. guacamole is my favorite. I am printing out his recipe to try.

  32. Yummy & Made With Garlic Has To Be Good!!

  33. I’ll take extra tomatoes in mine please! Looks fabulous.

  34. I never seem to add enough garlic to mine. That looks amazing. Thanks for sharing!

  35. To make it TEX-MEX add CIlantro and squeeze some lime. It is Delicioso.

  36. I love avocados a ton! And guac is the best dish, just had it for lunch. Thanks for sharing!

  37. We love guacamole! My husband makes it all the time! Yum … now I want some for dinner tonight.

  38. I love me some guacamole! I made my own for the first time a while back. Now I do it each time we make tacos or nachos!

  39. *drooling*
I am addicted to lime flavoured tortilla chips and I usually eat them plain. but now….I’m totally trying this. this is enough to eat an entire bag of chips, right? 🙂

  40. Looks really delicious. I have never tried making gucamole, this looks so easy and tasty!

  41. I love guacamole but have never tried making it at home for some reason. This will definitely get me started!

  42. Yum! I season mine with red onion, tomato, garlic, cilantro and lime juice. Can’t wrong with guac 🙂

  43. My husband is a huge guacamole fan, he loves it! Your recipe looks great, homemade is the best 🙂

  44. There’s nothing better than homemade guacamole! This would make a great recipe for Cinco de Mayo next month! I loved the pics – thanks for sharing!

  45. Oh I love a good guac recipe!! I could eat it until I turned green.

  46. I have but I don’t do tomatoes because I break out in little hives all over my arms and face. I have found it taste great with just the onions garlic and salt and peper.

  47. I add lime juice and some Red Hot or Sriracha. Yum!

  48. That looks tasty! We never add tomato to our guacamole, but we have tried several variations on our normal recipe and they have all turned out tasty.

  49. Yummy! This looks soooo good. We are huge fans of Mexican food as well and eat it all the time. I usually just mash up avocado with lime juice and salt & pepper, but I’ll have to try it sometime like this!

  50. Fresh guacamole sounds so good right now but I want to wait until tomatoes are more in season. I can’t tell if Chris is using a spoon in the picture, but I have found that the fastest and cleanest way to get it all out of the skin is to run a spoon between the flesh and the skin. The curve of the spoon works so well with the curve of the avocado that it just all comes right out of the skin, especially if they are nice and ripe. A tablespoon works better than a teaspoon.

  51. There is a Mexican restaurant here that we LOVE! but refuse to get the fresh guac because it’s $8 plus tip. A little outrageous if you ask me. My sister in law makes a delicious guac too. We tried to replicate it ourselves (with her detailed instructions) and it didn’t turn out so hot. We will definitely have to give this a go too. I love that you added in garlic. Yum!

  52. Yum! Looks so delicious. I love, love guacamole. This post makes me excited to make some of my own!

  53. We love guacamole. And I get so disappointed if I order some and it is not up to par! I have made it a couple of times but I never got it the way I like it.

  54. I admit it Guacamole is something i’ve never had a taste for but it does look good for those who do eat it.

  55. Give it a little kick by using some Rotel with Green Chilis instead of fresh tomato, and give it a squeeze of lime juice.

  56. I’m sad to say that I use a mix to make my guacamole. However, we have started our own little twists to the mix. Maybe one day we’ll make it without the mix.

  57. We love homemade guacamole. We actually have a really traditional family recipe on my husband’s side of the family that tastes delicious.

  58. I just made guacamole last night! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE guacamole and how easy and delicious it is.

  100. I used to not care for avocados, but now I love them! I can’t eat this right now (we’re on basically a paleo diet). Each week we’re adding new things into our diet, so soon I can try it. It looks good!
