DIY Shamrock Soap

If you’re looking for a fun, easy and useful craft to make this year for St. Patrick’s Day, how about trying this Shamrock Soap.  I had never made my own soap before, but have been wanting to try it for a while now.  I am so glad I did because it’s really much easier than I thought it would be.

Here’s what you need to make your Shamrock Soap:

  • Wilton Shamrock Silicone Mold
  • Clear Glycerin Soap Base or White Glycerin Soap Base
  • Matte Woodland Green Soap Color Bar
  • Oak Moss & Sandalwood Fragrance Oil
  • Plastic Transfer Pipette
  • Microwave Safe Measuring cup
  • Spray Bottle
  • 91% Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Optional: Pennies (for embedding in soap if you want)

Here’s what you do:

1. Cut your soap base into small cubes and place into your microwave safe measuring cup.

2. Melt your soap in short 30 second increments. Stir and repeat until soap is melted. Overheating can cause the soap to burn.

3. Cut small pieces off of your color cube. Repeat until you reach your desired shade of green.

4. Use your plastic transfer pipette to place a few drops of fragrance oil into the melted soap base. Stir well.

5. Pour melted soap into your soap mold until each cavity is filled completely. Note: If you want to place pennies into the soap you will want to put one penny into the bottom of each cavity and pour your soap on top of it.

6. Air bubbles may form on the top of your soap. Simply spray the top of your soap a few times with the isopropyl alcohol. This will remove any air bubbles on the surface of the soap.

7. Allow the soap to harden for up to 2 hours.

8. Remove the soap from the mold by gently pressing on the backside of the mold to release the soap. It should pop out easily.

9. Individually wrap your soap in clear plastic wrap or store in an airtight container. Glycerin soap must be kept covered until it is ready to be used.
