We host a big cookout every year on the 4th of July.  I am always on the hunt for cute decorations or things to make them.  I was at my local dollar store recently and picked up some supplies to make some fun patriotic decorations. One of the things I made out of the things I bought was a Patriotic Votive Holder. People usually stay well into the night and I thought the votive holders would be super cute out on my deck for after the sun goes down.

This Patriotic Votive Holder only requires a few supplies and you can have it finished in just a few minutes. Plus, it’s adorable!

Dollar Store DIY: Patriotic Votive Holder

Here’s what you need:

  • Mason jar
  • Crafting raffia
  • BATTERY operated votive
  • Patriotic ribbon

Here’s what you do:
1. Begin by filling the mason jar ¼ full of crafting raffia. We found this as well as the other supplies we used for this project at our local dollar store.
2. Place the battery operated votive in the jar. ONLY USE A BATTERY OPERATED VOTIVE as a regular votive is a fire hazard with the raffia.

3. Tie a length of patriotic ribbon around the mouth of the jar. Tie into a bow.

4. Your patriotic votive holder is now ready to be displayed.

The fun thing about this easy craft is that you can really make these for any occasion depending on which ribbon you choose. If you are having a cookout for July 4th like I am, your dollar store might have different varieties of ribbon, so you can make all different ones.

What do you think?  Not bad for only spending a few dollars on supplies, right?

I am really happy with my Patriotic Votive Holder and plan on making a few more over the next few weeks so that I have enough for all of the tables on my deck.
