Dec 242013

Last year, we finally jumped on the Elf on the Shelf bandwagon.  The boys had been nagging incessantly asking for one for a while, so I caved and “Snowy” made his first appearance last December.  At the time, I had seen people posting all sorts of clever EOTS (Elf on the Shelf) antics on Facebook, Pinterest, etc, and I decided that I should do some mischievous things with our elf, too.  How hard could it be, right?  I mean, people were posting pictures galore all over every social media outlet known to man……

And there lied my mistake.

I know some people  just moved their elf  nightly, which is what I should have done, but instead I started having Snowy do naughty little things right out of the gate.  Last year he toilet papered our Christmas tree, colored our milk green, got himself tied up by some army guys and all sorts of other things that involved way too much planning and work.  But by then I was committed, so I had to come up with a months worth of shenanigans for him to get into.  I was so happy last year on Christmas Eve when it was all over.

On December 1st of this year, Snowy came back to our house and I was ready this year dammit.  I spent a while on Pinterest gathering inspiration and without further adieu, here are a few of the things that Snowy got himself into this year:

He used one of the boys slinkies as a swing:

Somehow he managed to get trapped inside this jar by Ironman:

And then he went and got himself caught in Spiderman’s web:

He went rock climbing:

Here he is zip lining:

He thought it would be fun to drive a Monster Truck over a row of cars:

He redecorated our fridge:

One morning we found this cool Solo cup tree that he left for us:

He busted into a bag of M&M’s that I was saving for Christmas:

We caught him sledding down our banister in one of the kids plastic bowls:

He and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man had a game of Tic Tac Toe going one morning:

He managed to get stuck inside of our Frosted Flakes:

Here’s Snowy doing some acrobatics:

He played Angry Birds:

He drank up half of our syrup:

Snowy had big dreams of going skiing:

We found him all ready for a shower one morning:

And he even got into our ice cream:

So you have an Elf on the Shelf?  What kinds of mischief does he get into?

  1. Yes finally done

  2. Those are hilarious. I love the decorated refrigerator and the rock climbing ones! Too cute.

  3. These are all great, the rocks on the wall and the snowman on the ‘fridge were my faves. The Frosted Flakes is close next in line. 🙂 Hubby and I are newbies at it this year, so we both wanted to do it all of the time. I did after school and hubby did overnight. hhahaa. Our elf was busy. Maybe next year he’ll be an overnighter only. 😉

  4. I bow to you, because our elf is lazy (or should I say mommy here is!). Seriously I move him from shelf to shelf and even got told one or two days that he didn’t move 1 or 2 nights by my 4 year old! Seriously, loved your Elf pranks and want to wish you all a very, Merry Christmas!! 🙂

  5. I love that your elf gets into all that mischief. The boys must have a blast looking for him to see what new trouble he got himself into! These are fantastic – love the pics where he is stuck in jar, just getting out of the tub and doing acrobatics. They are all so creative!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Chris and the boys! 🙂

  6. Really clever ideas. My favorite was the jar with the help me sign. Merry Christmas to you.

  7. LOL your elf is very busy i don’t know how you keep up 😉

Have a very Merry Christmas 😉

  8. Ha! Those are great! The kids must have gotten a big kick out of it!

  9. You are having way too much fun with the elf! Are you sure you aren’t the kid? lol
Blessings to you and yours and Merry Christmas!

  10. That’s one active little elf . . . or a Mommy with too much time on her hands. 😉
I love your creativity. I used to be fun like you, but then I got old.

  11. so funny!! I may be stealing some of those ideas! Merry Christmas!

  12. These are so funny! I like them all, but my favorite is the one of him in the jar. Too cute. Great job on being creative!

  13. one of our 4th grade teachers brought one into school and whipped her kids right into shape. i spent a couple of days in the kleenex box, feeling sick when she forgot to move him, and when she had to leave the room for a few minutes, he kept very serious watch from above the tv in the classroom. she’s new to 4th grade and so am i and we were shocked at the number of kids who acted like they believed he might be magical.

as for the elf himself, he scares the bejeezus out of me and reminds me of elves my mother used to have that we always hated. someone has made a mint using that very elf that we all knew as kids and it burns my butt every time i hear about elf on the shelf!

  14. Love your Elf photos, I may have to jump on the bandwagon for next year.

  15. Hilarious, all of it. We need to get one of these asap. Clearly missing out on all kinds of fun…

  16. Wow! you are a rock star! love the fridge one!

We missed that whole EOTS boat (thankfully? lol)

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas 🙂

  17. Ha, what cute adventures he had! Decorating a fridge like a snowman is too cool.

  18. Wow, those are such creative and beautiful stuff you got there!

  19. Poor Snowy! Getting blamed for opening a bag of M&Ms before Christmas…… 😉

  20. This is hilarious!!! Reminds me of a post I saw recently… I think it’s very important to encourage creativity away from computer games/xbox etc!!!

  21. I don’t have an Elf on the Shelf but I enjoy seeing what antics put him up to. Looks like your elf was busy! I love the decorated fridge idea.

  22. Delightful post!
Christmas blessings to you and your family!

«Louis» thanks you for linking with his Christmas post.

  23. Your elf gets into all sorts of fun. I am going to have to try to remember some of these ideas to use for next year.

  24. I must be out of touch since my only child is nearly 24. I had no idea there was an Elf on the Shelf bandwagon! Some of those images are warped enough that they’re right up my alley! Of course I would never do harm to an elf on the shelf, but doing things a bit differently, that’s my style right there.
Hope your kids and elf (and you) have a great Christmas.

  25. Lol. looks like your elf had a really fun holiday. I hope yours was just as great.

  26. You came up with some great ideas! I started off the season big, but the last week or so I just started moving him around in a fit of laziness lol. We did switch things up by sending a note to the girls telling them he had a sister he would be trading places with periodically. We bough a skirt to put on him and switched them out every couple of days to keep them guessing who they were waking up to.

  27. We had a different elf who got into quite a bit of trouble as well. We love him though. I love that Madison is able to play with her during the day and she comes to life at night. Love all the fun stuff yours was up to. 🙂

  28. Gosh for a Little Elf he certainly gets into some BIG mischief. How long till he was found in the ice-cream? He could have got frost – bite, ermmm maybe not!!
    Great fun.
Hope he’s relaxing and had a Happy Christmas?
    Wren x

  29. I think he looks like a lot of fun! My husband thinks he’s a waist of time. Such a Scrooge! I’d get one in a heart beat if it weren’t for him.

  30. OK next along with the elf timer to REMIND me to move him each night. I’m coming over here for ideas. This year was our first year and I was so NOT creative or good at moving him.

  31. That’s funny. The elf thing has really gotten popular this year.

  32. I love the decorated fridge. I had a few creative moments this year but much was just moving him around. He did land head first quite a few times teaching others to not drink eggnog and drive when mixed with booze.

  33. Ha! How awesome. I love how he always finds way to cause trouble. Naughty little guy!

  34. So creative!!! Yet another reason why I can’t wait to have kids!

  35. I’m just going to cut out the middleman and send my kids to you next year. Our elf antics were dull compared to yours.

  36. These are awesome! I caved and got an Elf this year as well. He came just about two weeks before Christmas so I didn’t have too long to have to worry about him. I mainly kept it simple with just moving him but did a couple of fun things on some days. I found the kids didn’t really care when he was just on the curtain rod vs Rainbow Looming his name!

  37. These are awesome! I’m bookmarking for next year! You’re so clever!

  38. I love these and will definitely be referencing this next Christmas!
