Picture this: You are spending the morning wandering around South Boston and it suddenly hits you that you’re starving. It happens to me all the time. I will be out and about and it hits me out of no where that lunch time has already passed and I need to find some great food like NOW. I stopped into a great eatery in Southie recently and was so happy that I stopped in. Named after a 19th century guest house in historical Saratoga Springs, NY, Worden Hall was exactly what I was looking for.
But what sets Worden Hall apart? Sure, there are lots of food options in Southie, but the American cuisine at Worden Hall stands out among the rest. Just the variety on the menu alone….from classics like burgers and mac & cheese to char-grilled NY Strip to mushroom & vegetable lasagna! And that’s not even mentioning the deep dish pizzas that bring in the crowds! Worden Hall also boasts a wonderful seasonal food menu, an extensive craft beverage program with 40 rotating draft beers, a selection of over 100 whiskeys and modern inventive cocktails. How can you go wrong?
Worden Hall is a gathering place for family, friends, locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is casual and makes it a great place to catch up with friends over a great meal. I went in for lunch with my dad last week and were very happy with our experience at Worden Hall. Neither one of us had been there before and we loved both the atmosphere and the food.
We started out with some Chicken Wings as an appetizer. They’re Carolina-style BBQ (bone-in) wings that were served with buttermilk ranch, celery and blue cheese. Yum!
My dad got The Burger, which is 8oz Angus Beef topped with black pepper bacon, Cabot white cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and chipotle special sauce.
I got the Mac n’ Cheese made with horecchiette pasta, four cheese blend and topped with panko crumbs. There was an option to add chicken, pork belly, Guinness-braised short rib or mushroom & spinach. I went with the Guinness-braised short rib and I am so glad that I did. It was heavenly.
Worden Hall is conveniently located in the heart of South Boston at 22 West Broadway. If you are lucky like I was the day that I visited, you might find street parking near the restaurant, but if you don’t want to take your chances with parking, you can get to Worden Hall by taking Red line and getting off at the Broadway station stop. It’s literally right across the street.
I really enjoyed my meal at Worden Hall last week and my dad did, too. We’re excited to get back soon!
