Spread the love

Today is a big day here in the Bay State.  It was twenty five years ago (1989) that former Massachusetts Governor, Michael Dukakis, declared today, April 24th, New Kids on the Block Day.

At the time I didn’t know it yet, but that following summer I was going to be heading to the old Foxboro Stadium (before Gillette) to see the Boston boy band live in the flesh.  At the time, it was the highlight of my young life.

So, in honor of NKOTB Day, go ahead and channel your inner 14 year old and celebrate.

Tell me, which one did you think was the cute one?  FYI – the correct answer is Donnie.

  1. Best post ever and there is only one answer here… Joey!! 😉

  2. I never really liked them – lol (maybe because I was too old …..)

my friend went to see them when I think we were seniors in high school

I do like Donnie though – because he is on Blue Bloods now and I love that show 🙂

  3. Joe. You know Joey Joe is ready! 😉
    And Jordan. Sans rattail!

  4. I was too old to think of any of them as cute, but I did like some of their songs. 🙂 This post made me think too of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, lol (the brother, I think of the guy you like). 🙂

  5. I know of New Kids on the Block but I don’t really remember them – perhaps it’s as I am English and they were quite as big here I’m not sure lol. Enjoy New Kids on the Block day. x

  6. No! Let the 90’s die please! No more rat tails and blonde tips! 😉

  7. Yes Donnie was the cute one. OMG my age is showing! I use to love NKOTB!! Thanks for the throwback- I’ll be singing their songs all day!

  8. This is hysterical. How did I not know about this? I must go dig out one of their CDs and blast it all day now. And yes, Donnie was the cute one. Still is.

  9. Um, of course Donnie was the cute one!! This totally brings back memories. Back in the day I had NKOTB Bedding and thought I was super cool. I think my mom still has the sheets. LOL!

  10. Hahahah! I swear to God I woke up today thinking about a tee shirt I passed on a few weeks ago that had NKOTB on them. I’m still kicking myself for not buying it off the clearance rack for $5! lol. Funny to come here and read this today. And, Jordan was the cute one in my neck of the woods. I seriously thought about murdering my sister was when she stole my Jordan pin and gave it to one of her friends!

  11. ;))) I am reading all the comments as well and lol’ing!

  12. Oh New Kids! What fun!! They were too early for my to be obsessed, but my sisters definitely were.

  13. Oh my gosh I love this post! The NKOTB are the best!

  14. New Kids on the Block, do I ever remember them.

  15. Seriously? That’s kind of funny! They were a little before my time, but I still remember hearing some of their songs growing up.

  16. Hah! I had no idea there was such a thing as “NKOTB” day… I remember them well.

  17. Now that is too funny! Who knew there was a New Kids on the Block Day? WIll be sure to celebrate!

  18. You are so silly! I never really listened to them. I did listen to others that were popular in that time.

  19. So funny I just looked them up the other day to show my kids, they laughed. I was jammin’ out.

  20. I had no idea this was a day, I have never been to a concert 🙁 I will stick with the correct answer and say Donnie is the best looking, lol.

  21. I am not familiar with the group but they look good.

  22. Wow! Fun retro post. I was t a fan but now I am. Weird right?

  23. You crack me up. I guess it’s my day to Hang Tough! Joey was and always will be my favorite. Please don’t go girl!

  24. aww I used to love New Kids On The Block! Yay for today!

  25. I am always surprised by how many strange holidays there are. NKOTB Day isn’t the strangest I’ve heard of, but it is funny to me!

  26. Okay I just went back to being 17 and summer vacation. Hanging at the mall and dancing through stores to these guys. Yep total flash back.

  27. Oh my goodness, such a flash back! I was crazy for NKOTB when I was younger. oh goodness. And YES; Donnie was my favorite! lol. Amber E.

  28. So Jealous I Hope You Had A Blast They Are AWESOME LOVE IT Thank You For Sharing!

  29. How funny that they had a day named after them. But then again, it seems like that happens to everyone at some point.

  30. My best friend and I took her younger sister to NKOTB around that time. We did it because NO ONE did that for us. Both of us were obsessed with Duran Duran and our mothers and fathers thought it was ridiculous to spend money on frivolous things like concerts. We HAD to make her young dream come true.

  31. they were all the craze back in the 80’s. I know i thought one of them was cute but can’t remember which one. I looked at recent pics though, and Donnie sure isn’t the cutest now, haha!

  32. Fun post. Donnie was my daughters favorite one also.

  33. I can’t remember which one was my favorite. But I remember trying to dance like them in my living room watching them on MTV when they actually played music.

  34. I’m not sure how much I liked them them. Don’t even try to get me liking them now!

  35. Haha! This is so funny. I was never a NKTOB fan, but I did have the pleasure of working with Donnie on a show he did at the network where I work. He was super nice and lots of joking always going on. He used to tease me about being fat – see I was preggers with my son – so it was pretty funny.

  36. Wow! 1989. I feel sooo old right now. I remember girls in elementary school going to concerts with poster boards and then bringing them to school!

  37. Oh my heck!!!!! I’ll never forget. I saw them in concert when I was in the 6th grade!!!! I was in love with the shy one – Jonathan! 🙂

  38. Oh my goodness, how awesome. My first concert every was to NKOTB. I know all their songs… am I showing my age?

  39. omg seriously?? I knew they were big but not THAT big to have their own special day of celebration hahaha…

    Ai @ Sakura Haruka

  40. Oh man!! When I was in 1st grade they were plastered on my walls!! My mom was like 22 so I’m thinking she secretly had the crush.

  41. They were never my cup of tea, but who knew they had their own day? Can someone declare an official bloggers day already? 🙂

  42. woooott wwoooot! I still love them and I don’t care who knows!
HA – cannot believe I did see them in concert in Toronto. They did a great show – I can’t lie.
I used to blast their music from my dorm room in college — people actually nicknamed me Super New Kid. Ha.
    And yes: Donnie FTW!

  43. What?! Um, this is awesome! I loved NKOTB!

  44. LOL Sorry I was a bigger fan of the OTHER boy band out at the time. I just saw Donnie’s show the other night by accident and meant to DVR it so I could decide if I liked it.

  45. They got their own day?! That’s too funny! They were all a bit cute in their own way.

  46. I can’t believe their is a NKOTB day! I can remember wearing out a cassette tape listening to their songs.

  47. LOL! I can’t believe I didn’t realize there was an NKOTB day? Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I need to put some of their music on replay 😉

  48. This is actually a day?!?! I missed NKOTB by a few years but somehow got my hands on a cassette tape when I was young and would alternate “Step By Step” with “Brother For Sale” by Mary Kate and Ashley. Hahahah!

  49. I remember this group in my younger days, I didn’t know they where still a group.

  50. Is it for real? I had no idea! I gotta go see if there is a day dedicated to The Back Street Boys

  51. They were all cute, but I never really thought any of them were super hot until Jordan’s “Give it to You” video. Very hot!

  52. “Oh oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh, the right stuff!!” Haha! Now I have that stuck in my head. I hope you do, too. 🙂

  53. Thanks for the ‘ear worm’, Classy! Seriously, I was already in my 20’s when they came around, and more into Def Leppard and Journey…but I understand the whole boy band thing. My granddaughter is twelve and she is going to die, seriously, if she does not get to see One Direction in concert this summer.

  54. I don’t know much about the NLOTB, but I have heard of them. It’s pretty cool to have a NKOTB Day.

  55. That’s the coolest thing I’ve heard all freakin’ day!

  56. Everyone’s favorite was Donnie!!! I was in LOOVE with him.

  57. I never really got into New Kids on the Block. It must be an age thing. 🙂

  58. I was too young to fully enjoy them but I got into them in the mid 90’s when I bought a cassette of theirs at a yard sale lol. I always thought Joey was dreamy.

  59. I was 10 or 11 and I loved this video. Donnie was my favorite NKOTBer. Thanks to you I’ve watched a ton more NKOTB videos and haven’t gotten anything done this morning, lol.

  60. Jordan was my favorite.

  61. Every girl in my school was in LOVE with these boys. What a lot of memories.

  62. This is hilarious! Love them and saw them a few years ago with BSB!

  63. Love it! I had a pink comforter with all of their pictures on it. I’d say Donnie or Marky Mark 🙂

  64. I had no idea there was a NKOTB day! How fun. Marky Mark for me. 🙂

  65. Water just came out my nose. I had no idea there was a NKOTB day. I was a Jordan fan 🙂 Funny story- 5 years ago, my husband was in NYC for his bachelor party with 25 other 30-something year-old men and they walked into the lobby of their hotel to find it saturated with grown women, no men. Come to find out, the New Kids were staying at his hotel and it was all groupies! Later that night they came back after a Yankees game to the hotel bar and Joey was there drinking- he now has photos of himself with Joey, LOL.

  66. They have a day? lol Wow I haven’t seen or heard about them in awhile. Marky Mark, hahaha

  67. I am a bit too old to have liked this group…maybe my kids did but they were pretty young.

I do love Blue Bloods and Donnie Wahlberg in that show. One of my favorites. And of course Mark Wahlberg too!

  68. So, I was a bit NKOTB obsessed when I was a kid. It only lasted for about a year but my friends and I had the hats, the posters, the cassette tapes (what the heck are those??) and we were even members of the fan club (gag me). ANd, Joey was my crush. Now, i’m just grossed out by them touring around as the New “Kids” On the Block… still. Yuck.

  69. Haha my older sister always loved New Kids on the Block! I didn’t know they had their own day!

  70. New Kids on The Block Day? Omg that goes back…but it also means I’m older than you!! 🙂

  71. EKKK! How fun!!! I love me some NKOTB

  72. I liked the little one. I have no idea what their names are HAH

  73. I don’t care what anyone says I loved NKOTB! They were a little too old for me but I loved their music. lol

  74. Oh I LOVE NKOTB. I used to think John was the cute one. Now it’s a tie between Donnie, Joey and Danny (well only because he has a super hot body)

  75. OMG They have their own day?? Lol Do you get that day off if you are a “die hard fan”? hehehe

  76. OMG, that is hilarious!! Happy NKOTB day!

  77. OMG! I loved NKOTB! My favorite has always been Jordan and I remember when this video came out.

  78. Mmm, love me some NKOTB! And yes, Donnie IS the correct answer! Love them Wahlbergs!! I watch them on the Wahlburgers. Mark is my favorite of the brothers though! 🙂

  79. I was never into New Kids on the Block but I remember all the girls I knew loved Joey

  80. Not a fan of the band but a huge fan of the burger.

  81. I wasn’t really into them when they were big … too old, I guess. But I like ’em more now.

  82. Of course New Kids On The Block should have their own day! Amazing! And I had a serious “I can’t choose whose the cutest” case between Jordan and Joye. Good times! LOL

  83. Oh my gosh!!!! This made me so giddy! I remember how into them we were! lol! Put a huge smile on my face! Thanks for helping me remember!

  84. I’m a little young for New Kids on the Block (I’m 23), but I’ve heard a few of their songs and they’re good!

  85. LOL! This is awesome. I loved Donnie as well.

  86. Ummm as a NKOTB Fan I am sad that I didn’t know there was such a thing as NKTOB day. When I was 13, I met Jordan Knight. Best. Day. Ever.

  87. Wow! There really is a day for everything! Remember Step by Step? 🙂

  88. JORDAN!!! I even flashed him half an areola at the concert. :/ It was a shameful crush.
