Have you guys seen the new Ghostbusters movie yet? I took my twelve year old and two of his friends to see it the weekend it came out and we loved it – not that I had any doubt that I would. The original Ghostbusters (from the 80’s) is my ALL-TIME favorite movie, so there was no chance I was missing the new, updated version. It has an awesome, and I do mean awesome, cast and definitely lived up to the hype – oh and I’ve seen it three times already.
Since we’re such big fans of Ghostbusters, I decided that I need to make some homemade ectoplasm (slime) for the kids to play with. Slime, goo, gunk, glop, ooze or whatever you’d like to call it, this creation will please boys (and girls) of all ages. It’s incredibly easy to make and only requires 3 ingredients!
The combination will create chemical reaction that can be fun for a hands-on educational experiment. Chemical bonds form as you mix the ingredients. The molecules stick together and become polymers which create the slimy texture. The formula is also non-toxic and, when kept in an air-tight container, it can last years. It’s not recommended for consumption, but it won’t harm those little ones who just can’t help but try and taste it.
You Will Need:
- 1 teaspoon of Borax
- 1 and 1/2 cups of water
- 1/2 cup of gel school glue
- 2 bowls
- Food coloring – optional
To Create the Slime:
1. Dissolve Borax in 1 cup of water in one of the bowls.
2. Pour glue into a separate bowl and add the remaining 1/2 cup of water.
3. A few drops of food coloring could be added, but this is an optional step. For a slimy green hues, mix 2 drops of green coloring with 3 drops of yellow. Or, use pre-colored gel glue.
My kids love this stuff and it’s so easy to make, we constantly have some in our house!
The Ghostbusters movie was such a hit with my family & inspired our homemade slime, which has kept my boys busy this summer. But sadly, summer is quickly coming to an end and they’ll be heading back to school before I know it. That means early wake-ups, homework and packing lunches. I grabbed some fun snacks while I was at Walmart because I like to have a variety of things on hand to snack on or throw in lunch boxes.
I saw this Mixed Mini Variety Bag and had to get one. It is filled with things my family likes.
I also got a bag of SNICKERS® Mixed fun sized variety 35.09 oz. and M&M’s® Milk 42 oz.
While you’re at Walmart, be on the lookout for M&M’s® Milk Chocolate Bottles with Ghostbusters themed packaging! There’s even an in store coupon with savings of $0.75 off 1 M&M’s® Bottle July 17 – September 30!
Ghostbusters is in theaters now. Have you seen it yet?
