While we were in New Hampshire in November, we stayed on Loon Mountain.  When we arrived, we were excited to see that they already started making snow on the mountain and the boys couldn’t wait to go out and play in it.

It was still really early in the season, so we weren’t expecting there to be snow and didn’t go prepared.  Chris stopped at a store up the street and we picked up a couple of cheap sleds so the boys could take them out for a spin.  The thing is, where the hills are, even the small ones, were at the base of the ski slopes, so we had to wait until after dark before we went out to sled.  That didn’t seem to bother the boys, though – they were just happy to get out in the white stuff.

There were a few times that they couldn’t stop until they hit the sidewalk.

They had a BLAST playing in the snow and I know they are praying for snow every day now.  Me?  Not so much.

  1. Those were some wicked hills

  2. My kids love sledding too. I miss the days when I was too young to notice the cold. I’m glad the kids like to get outside and play in it though rather than holing up in the house playing video games. Looks like your kids do the same!

  3. Night sledding is so much fun! We have a steep gravel driveway that always has a bit of snow and ice on it. At the beginning of the season they are always out there at some point night sledding under the spotlights.

  4. I love the picture of your husband sprawled out across the ground. Night sledding or even day sledding is always fun for the kids, right?

  5. When I think of sledding I don’t think of the kind Chris bought-if course I realize that they are sleds–I think of a wooden platform that you steer-I distinctly remember going down a hill on my Dad’s back-holding on for dear life and loving every minute of it! Or dragging that sled to our local sledding hill by the attached string with the other kids and playing until just before dark! Wonderful memories which I’m sure your son’s will also have of sledding with their Dad.

  6. Robin sounds like my husband and kids about the snow and you and I are on the same page with not so much for wishing for snow now! But did look like fun for them and glad they got to do this 🙂

  7. Looks like a fun time

  8. ooh i’m so jealous! we got snow, but it didn’t stick, but it sure was cold (by atlanta standards)

  9. Fun! We haven’t been able to go sledding yet because it was negative temps when we had snow. Now it melted :(. Never sledded at night though, sounds fun!

  10. How fun! And kudos to Chris for getting on the saucer!!! Those suckers fly!

  11. That is some fun Sledding.. Your Boys plus your hubby had such a great time it seems 🙂 What a great outdoor activity!

  12. Awesome I’d love to do that with my guy’s but you know being sick isn’t so easy to play in the snow. I’m glad you got to enjoy some family time even with the icy cold snow.

  13. You guys always seem to have such fun!! I’m jealous that you’re able to turn everything into an adventure. 🙂 I’d probably stay tucked in bed and complain about the cold!

  14. I can’t even believe how fun that looks!!! With the whole thing happening at nighttime, there’s such a magic about it too.

  15. ahhhh, Great fun! I’ve never been sledding at night, but I can imagine its a good time! You can’t see where you’re going, but you don’t care because its so much fun!

  16. The night sledging sounds AWESOME! Something I would love to do with my son and I bet it gives amazing memories when you get older. Thank you for the idea!

  17. Snow,Snow,Snow, I never seen it before,That sucks, but night sledding looks like a whole lot of fun

  18. I’m like a child when it comes to sledding, love love love it!! We’ve never been at night though, must do!

  19. I haven’t been sledding in years. We used to sneak into the golf course behind our house that had fabulous hills, but since we moved, there aren’t any good hills around. Night sledding sounds like a lot of fun!

  20. Looks so much fun. We have the same sled as yours hehehe.

  21. I would not have wanted to wait to play either. It looks like you all had a great time.

  22. Looks like they had a blast.

  23. You are such a fun mommy! Can I hang out with you for a day? Lol

  24. I use to love going snow sledding when I was young. I hope next year I will be able to take my kids to Tahoe to the snow.

  25. This definitively would be what I would be praying for too! So jealous!thanks for sharing those super happy faces

  26. It looks like you all had a very nice time sleeding at night! Enjoy the snow 🙂

  27. What fun! I am not an outside Winter person AT ALL. I was … and I stopped. My middle child only lasts maybe 20 minutes and my oldest & youngest will last all day if I let them. I miss going sliding and enjoying it!

  28. My boys are so jealous!!

They say they want to go, we have to go to the mountain for that.

  29. So cool! I’d love to visit somewhere up north sometime to experience snow with the kids.

  30. Oh my goodness! Love this! Sledding is so much fun but there is something about going at night time! Thanks for showing off your fun pics!

  31. Looks like so much fun! I love sledding with my son. One time, my dog even jumped on with us!

  32. I have never been sledding before, but I can easily imagine how fun it must be. 🙂

  33. Looks like fun! Hope Chris is okay LOL

  34. Now that looks like fun – and extra so as its dark – we haven’t had any snow here this year yet but I’m sure it’s on its way. x

  35. Oh man, if I was a kid, I would have a blast with night sledding! Now; I’m not a big fan of the cold. It gets way too cold here at night to go sledding. We do it on the warmer 24 degree saturdays. lol. We have tons of snow…your kids are welcome to it all. lol.

  36. Looks like they had a lot of fun! The kids always love snow, but I’m not too keen on it. Good thing we don’t ever get it around here, huh? Lol.

  37. awww how fun is that! I want to take my kids sledding, but I need all of them to have boots and gloves and so forth. I remember going when I was a kid, I always had a blast!

  38. You guys have so much fun! I want to be adopted now!

  39. It sure looks like a lot of fun! We had a lot of snow last week and enough to go sledding but my lazy kids would much prefer to stay indoors. Maybe we can trade kids. 🙂

  40. how fun was that to go sledding at night to cool

  41. My kids love snow, but me not so much 🙂 My boys would have loved the sledding!

  42. I havent been sledding for years. I used to go all the time when I was little and it was super fun!

  43. We have never played in snow in our own area. We have traveled to snowy areas but having it in our own home would be amazing!!

  44. I used to love sledding in the dark! Looks like they had a great time!

  45. This looks like it was so much fun. These are exactly the kind of memories that I strive to make with my own children. Good times.

  46. Looks like they had a great time,we love snow here well except for the cold part lol.

  47. So fun! We actually have not been able to go sledding yet. Between the freezing temps and an on again/off again sick toddler it just hasn’t happened.

  48. This looks like a blast! If there is one thing I regret about living in Colorado for three years, it’s that I NEVER went sledding or took full advantage of the snow. Now I am stuck in Florida and missing the opportunity!

  49. When I was a kid, we would only come in to eat… otherwise it was snow, snow, snow. I don’t know how we stood it all the time. Maybe that’s why I’m so over it now!

  50. I miss sledding…I grew up in New England with real winters and now live in the south with NO SNOW. It is horrible! Looks like you all had fun!

  51. Oooh sledding at night! I’ve never done that before but I bet it’s awesome. We haven’t gone sledding yet. We need the snow to come back so we can go do that!

  52. You took some great pictures! Looks like they had a lot of fun. And I wouldn’t have been praying for snow every day, either. 😉

  53. we’ve never gone sledding at night with the kids. we should tho- we just got them new sleds and they are LOVING it!

  54. Looks like they all had lots of fun! We haven’t had enough snow to sled here in years – I think the last time I did it was when I was 14 or 15 years old!

  55. I absolutely love snow, and how brave are your boys for going sledding at night?! I know I would be too cold to do that lol.

  56. That looks like so much fun! I love playing in the snow at night. There is something adventurous about it.

  57. Looks like such a great time! We’ve still got plenty of snow, we need to see if J is up for it!

  58. How fun! I feel like a bad mom here…we’ve never taken our kids sledding before, and we get snow every winter. I need to do this with them!

  59. Aw, how fun! That is an experience they will remember forever.

  60. My boys have never been sled riding. They keep asking for us to take them to the mountains where there’s at least a chance of snow.

  61. It seems like sledding is so much fun! I totally want to try it again some day with my kiddos!

  62. We took the boys sledding at night one time and it was so much fun! I hope we can have more snow days soon.

  63. I have never gone night sledding, but I think it sounds like a blast. We used to go to this place called Hernia hill. After going down it you felt like you had a hernia.

  64. I love the idea of night sledding. When my little one gets older it is definitely something I want to do with her. We took her dog sledding this winter and she loved it.

  65. What cool parents you are to go sledding at night! Looks like everyone had fun.

  66. Oh man, can I say I just got a little hint of jealousy??!? We’re in the 70s here (tough, I know) but oh how fun sledding looks!! I grew up with snow days where me and my brothers would go out and sled, so I’m sad my kids are missing out!

  67. My youngest have never been sledding but want to take them. We don’t get snow but I can find it about an hour away in the cold months. 🙂

  68. One of the things I miss most about living up north is the snow! We just get super cold weather and ice down here, none of the benefits of the snow like sledding, snow men, and “snow” cones.

  69. My whole family was just up in NC skiing. One of the days we all went sledding and had an absolute blast!!We had the same green saucer sleds you guys had too!

  70. Ha! Now that looks fun! I wish Louisiana would snow heavy at least one time in the 10 years!

  71. Now this looks like tons of fun 😀

  72. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  73. I haven’t been sledding in years! I am sure my kids now would love it as much as I did back then. Sadly we don’t get much snow in GA.
