Marvel Avengers Bento Lunch Idea

When my boys go to school, they are allowed to buy hot lunch once a week and the other four days, they bring their lunch.  I have very distinct memories from my own childhood of fun lunches that my mom used to pack for me.  Sometimes she would draw me a goofy picture that I would find when I opened my lunch box or sometimes she would make fun shapes out of my sandwiches.  She was very creative when it came to packing my lunches as a child and I loved those little surprises she sent me off with.

Now that I’m the mom, sadly I am not as creative as my own mother, but every now and then I totally rock the lunchbox and such was the case recently when I decided to make a MARVEL Avengers bento lunch for my little man to take to school.  We’re all very big fans of The Avengers, so I knew he’d be blown away when he opened his lunch box and find a fun surprise in there.

With my MARVEL Avengers themed lunch, I covered Thor, The Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America.  Here’s what I did:

First up were some Thor Hammer Snacks.  They are simple to make and you’ll only need two ingredients to put them together – pretzel sticks and cheese that you can cut up in to small cubes.

Thor Hammer Snacks Supplies

Once I cut up the cheese into little cubes, I stuck the pretzel in the bottom of each cube and voila…..a bunch of little Mjölnir’s.

Thor Hammer Snack Idea

Next, I made some Iron Man Fruit Skewers.  I chose to make mine with some cut up strawberries and chunks of pineapple because those are the colors of Iron Man’s suit.  Easy Peasy.

Iron Man Fruit Skewers

Finally, for the “main course”, I made a sandwich to look like Captain America’s shield.  In order to make it, I gathered up everything I would need:  a (turkey) sandwich, one extra piece of bread, two circle shaped cookie cutters (one big and one small), a small star shaped cookie cutter and two edible markers.

Captain America Sheild Sandwich Supplies

I used the larger circular cookie cutter to cut our turkey sandwich.  Then I used the smaller circular cookie cutter to cut a smaller circle out of my extra piece of bread & then cut a small star out of the rest of that piece.

Captain America Sheild Sandwich Cut Outs

Next I grabbed my edible markers and got to work coloring the bread.

Captain America Sheild Sandwich Coloring Bread

I colored the outside edge of the top of the actual sandwich red and I colored the small circle of bread blue.  I put the blue circle on top of the sandwich and placed the star cutout on top of that.

See?

Captain America Sheild Bento Sandwich

After all was said and dont, I still felt like there was something missing from the bento box.  I couldn’t help thinking that they needed something a little more substantial in there and I found just the thing while I was at Target.

They have out these NEW MARVEL Chewy Granola Bars and as soon as I saw them, I just had to get some. They come in Peanut Butter or Chocolate Chip and I bought one of each because I just couldn’t decide.

Target Chewy Bars

What I love about the new MARVEL Chewy Granola Bars is that there are six different wrappers: Captain America, Hulk, Spider Man, Iron Man, Black Widow and Thor!  Not only that, the packaging Includes 4 collector cards – Hulk, Iron Man, Hawk Eye, and Spider Man.  And did I mention that Super Hero Snack Bars are 40% bigger based on weight of 24g chewy bar.  Score.

When all was said and done, here is our completed bento box.

Marvel Avengers Bento Lunch

And in case you’re thinking “hey, what’s your child going to drink with his super cool MARVEL Avengers Bento Lunch, here is what I did:

Hulk Gamma Ray Juice

All I did was peel the label off of a bottle of a green sports drink that he likes. Then I made my own label & added a few Hulk stickers that we had laying around the house.  Boom!

Be sure to check out how to make snack time even more SUPER at the MARVEL hub. Have you ever made a themed bento lunch box for your kids?  If so, what was it?

This is so cool and creative. I would have never been able to pull this off. Guess I need to add this to my arsenal for when I have kids. 🙂

This is a fun lunch for the superhero fan. I’ll have to make something like this for my youngest son. He loves superheros.
