off-the-beaten-path-spots-in-boston

Like most historical cities in the United States, Boston has a rich and expansive history. There are more historic buildings and locations in Boston than you could see in just one day. Instead of killing yourself trying to take in all the usual tourist spots, check out these off the beaten path spots in Boston. There’s something for everyone, they’re all unique, and while you might not learn quite as much I’m sure you’ll have just as much fun (if not more)!

Check out Bodega
6 Clearway St, Boston, MA 02115

It might look like a dingey bodega straight from the streets of NYC but head to the back, watch the Snapple machine slide out of the way and BOOM! Your jaw will drop. It reveals an awesome shoe store. Even if you don’t need shoes it’s a pretty awesome place to browse and the thrill of a 007-esque entrance is worth the visit, in my opinion!

Play with Lasers at Danger!Awesome
Cambridge, Massachusetts

There are different events for different days and you should plan accordingly but you can actually cut stuff…with lasers. It’s pretty amazing and totally fun for the adventurer or even the science enthusiast.

Check out the Observation Deck at the Custom House
3 McKinley Square, Boston, MA 02109

You can check out the panoramic views of the city and feel like you’re on top of the world. What better way to view such a beautiful and historic city?!?

Brunch Fiesta at Masa
439 Tremont St. Boston, MA

Between 10 and 3 on Saturday and Sunday you can experience perhaps the best brunch fiesta ever at Masa in the South End. For less than $10 you can eat a monster sized brunch and be fueled up for your day!

Sam Adams Brewery Tour or Central Bottle Wine Tasting
These are both great options if you love beer or wine. It’s fun to go and see the brewery and who could turn down tasting some while you are there? These are also great options for date night in Boston!

Head to Castle Island
Sure, this is historic and tour-ish BUT it’s also really amazing and fun! It’s not everyday you get to explore an old fort! Or maybe it is if you work there or something, but in that case you already know how awesome it is!

Boston University Observatory
There are special occasions when the Boston University Observatory is open to the public. You can feel like a real space cadet while checking out the beautiful views from atop the building! These are open to the public, weather permitting, during the fall and winter!

Brooklyn Boulders
12A Tyler Street, Somerville, MA 02143

This is an indoor rock climbing facility and let me tell you…it’s awesome. You’ll have way more fun and get way more exercise here than  you will doing a walking tour with two screaming kids. If you like to rock climb this is a great place to visit while you are in the Boston area!

Venture out to the Witch Museums
It may seem cliche and a little overdone. It’s not typically one of the HUGE historical things about the city that everyone needs to see but they’re fun. There are pirate museums, witch museums and tours. It’s a part of the city history and if you are already in the area I would definitely recommend making a stop.

Boston Public Library
Plays host to some concerts in the courtyard. If you are in Boston between June and – September I would recommend you check out the schedule and stop in for one of the shows in the courtyard at the Boston Public Library.

Escape the Room
Of course there’s an Escape the Room in Boston! Check it out with your family or your friends and see how well you do! This is a great option for some fun under pressure and it’s definitely different from the typical museum style tourist stuff happening across the city. You only have 60 minutes to figure out the clues and earn your freedom so it can really be a high pressure kind of fun.

There’s definitely a lot of fun to be had in Boston!
