Now that my son is older, I find myself looking for things to keep myself busy while not breaking the bank. My friend and I decided to look for inexpensive and/or free things to do, and that was the inspiration behind our Adventure Girls Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/adventuregirls0608/) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Adventuregirls0608/). We love to get out and do things, but New England winters are tricky so we had to find things indoors to do.

One of my favorite places to find bargains is Groupon. You can find almost anything on there, and we found a Plant Nite that piqued our interest.

I will be the first to admit that I do NOT have a green thumb; I have killed pretty much every plant I’ve ever had, and quickly. I wasn’t, however, letting that deter me from trying this out. These nights are located all over the US and there were lots here in Massachusetts to choose from. We wanted to stay close to home with the often-uncertain weather conditions here in New England during the winter, so we chose a local restaurant.

There are several types of containers: glass, plastic, hanging glass, wood, metal ceramic, and wreaths, just to name a few. The plants, decorations, and all necessary supplies are included. You can make herb gardens, hanging glass terrariums, apothecary jar terrariums, and fairy terrariums in addition to simple planters. They use succulents, which I’m told are hearty plants. We chose the yin and yang glass planter, but next time I may want to go with a wooden one. There is literally something to suit everyone’s taste.

It was just my luck that my usual adventure girl got sick and couldn’t attend, but I asked another friend to go with me as they do not let you reschedule with less than 48 hours’ notice. You can eat and drink while making your planters, but we chose to get there early and have dinner. You sit in groups, so it’s great if you bring a few people along. It was just the 2 of us, and the tables sat 6. Not to worry, though. Our hostess had a few ice breaker games and within a few minutes, we were all comfortable with one another.

Making our planter took about an hour. Instructions on how to take care of the plant were provided during the night and on a card provided on our table. We could personalize with our choice of 2 different types of crystal and many “wish rocks”, which we could also write on if we wanted to. It was a fun night and something I’d like to do again. Oh yeah, and we take goofy pictures at the end, which I love! Check it out at https://www.plantnite.com/.

  2. That is so cool! I love how it turned out. P.S. I’m a huge fan of succulents. I have a VERY brown thumb, but even I can grow them.

I just keep on buying.” 🙂
