A couple of weekends ago, Chris & I took the boys to a Providence Bruins game. The P-Bruins are the AHL team for the Boston Bruins and they played theΒ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins the day we went.

“The American Hockey League is a 30-team professional ice hockey league based in the United States and Canada that serves as the primary developmental circuit for the National Hockey League”

IMG_3941

The P-Bruins play down in Rhode Island at the Dunkin Donuts Center (aka the dunk). Tickets are MUCH cheaper than tickets to a Boston Bruins game and frankly, it’s a lot more fun for the kids.

I got the tickets the night before and there were still great seats available. I ended up scoring us third row seats right behind the players box.

IMG_3942

We were right next to where the players came out, too, which was pretty cool.

IMG_3944

Here is my nine year old scoring himself some hand slaps from the players as they took the ice.

IMG_3963

The boys loved watching them practice before the game:

It was an awesome game and we all really enjoyed being so close to the players.

There were a couple of good fights, too.

IMG_3976

Of course, the highlight of the day wasn’t the game -it was the Zamboni machines. Β At least as far as my kids went.

IMG_3959

And it just wouldn’t be an outing with my little guy if there wasn’t some sort of meltdown while we were there:

IMG_3989

IMG_3991

Want to know why he was so upset? Because he, his brother & Chris made it onto the Fan Cam up on the jumbotron & he didn’t want to be on tv. No, I am no kidding.

We didn’t win the game (the score was 5 to 1, Penguins), but we still had a blast at the game.

I love watching hockey! I think it’s cute that he didn’t want to be on the screen when most kids want to be on the screen. I think watching the practice is fun too.

I can relate – when I was four I was selected from the audience to announce something, and I wouldn’t do it – saying no whilst on TV. Otherwise I would say, how cool is that! Great seats and wonderful shots.

So as I have noticed little man is not the type to like a lot of attention. He is a lot like my baby. If he wants to be on camera that is one thing, if not forget. Thank heavens he has gotten past the meltdown stage but there were days. Looks like other than that slight glitch ya’ll had a good time. I have never been to a hockey game. Kentucky had a hockey team once upon a time called the Thoroughblades but it didn’t last long.

My kids have meltdowns like that sometimes too. Sometimes they get so tired that they will make up any kind of excuse to throw a fit. But it looks like you still had a good time at the game. It’s been years since I’ve gone to a hockey game. Have a fabulous day!

What a cool way to spend the game! I love that they were so close to get High 5’s from the players. Reminds me of the time when I was a little girl, we got seats close to where the minor league baseball players were practicing. I was able to get many autographs that day. Such fun!

I so so miss my Season tickets to the Kingston Frontenacs (OHL) back in my hometown! They wear the black, gold and white too. That was back when we had an awesome line up of Chris Gratton, David Ling, Brett Lindros and Chad Kilger. Great games. some better than the NHL

Doug Gilmour is the General Manager now and Todd Gill is the coach. And I have not seen a game since they moved to the new arena.
but yeah, my kids would probably like the zamboni the best too.

We used to have a minor league hockey team in our city. It was a lot of fun! Though, I have to admit, I once fell asleep during a game. I blame it on the fact that I had to be up at 4 a.m. for work every weekend (and it was a Saturday night.)
