Last week took a mini road trip to visit with Chris’s sister & her family down at their home in Connecticut.  She just had a baby boy in December, and we were dying to meet him!  We took the ride down there as soon as we could fit it in to everyone’s schedules.

Our new nephew is adorable by the way, but today I wanted to share a few of the pictures I snapped with my phone as my six year old took to the rop swing they have over a small creek in their back yard.

Lucky for my little man, I was able to stop big brother before he pushed him off of the swing. Eek.

Chris even had a go on the swing:

I opted out this time because well, I’m a big chicken. My nine year old chickened out, too, so at least I wasn’t the only one. The boys love that thing and look forward to it every time we go down there.

  1. It is a wonder on how they built that swing

  2. Looked like fun, but I so would have chickened out, too. And I seriously thought I was going to see your six year old in that water, but glass that wasn’t the case.

  3. It’s a great touch to have at their house!

  4. Swinging on ropes is such fun. Glad to see even the hubby got into it. Next time, you have to enjoy also. At least once

  5. That looks like FUN!! They are so lucky they have it right in their back yard like that.

  6. I used to love rope swings.. I don’t blame you for chickening out this time of year. It would be a cold fall if you fell in that mucky water.

  7. When I was a teenager, my friends and I would pile into my little blue car and head down to Exit 3 where, after a long drive to what seemed like the middle of nowhere, and then a hike and a half into actual nowhere, we would find a large pond with an island in the center. Every year the cops would cut down the rope swing and every year the kids would put it back up. We spend MANY summer days swinging out over the pond and letting over (hopefully) enough water. Sometimes i would make up, others… not so much. A friend of mine actually shattered his hip when the rope swung back and smacked him into a tree. His friends had to carry him out to where the paramedics could get to him.

So while I know why you would be too chicken today (and truth be told I may be as well), I wouldn’t trade those cuts and bruises from belly flops and beach landings for anything. 🙂

  8. I had a rope swing as a child. Oh, I had so much fun!

  9. It would be wet and cold if they slipped off the rope and into the brook … brrr!

  10. Hi sorry if duplicate – not sure if my last comment went through – my computer is not working so commenting from my son’s laptop –

anyway – that looks really fun! Maybe it’s a guy thing? because I probably would not be doing that either! lol 🙂

  11. How fun! I used to love using a rope swing as a kid. We don’t have the room to have one of them here at our house but my kids would love it

  12. Rop swinging is so much fun, isn’t it? Yes, I am a chicken too.. but when we were little, I remember my brother doing this countless times and me beside him cheering him all along…

  13. That looks like too much fun! I used to love these things as a kid, and still have the scars from a few not-so-well-thought-out swings to prove it, lol!

  14. I would be chicken of falling in the creek.

  15. It looks a alot of fun but I too would have been Chicken.

  16. Oooh, I would have totally taken a turn on that swing! I always wanted something like that in my back yard!

  17. I mean, don’t get me wrong…I love my weekend shopping trips but I would give them up to live where your sister does. That swing looks like a ton of fun, I would have definitely had to try it out. By the way, I bet your nephew is a cutie pie!

  18. Looks like fun. I hope no one fell in the creek. The water looks kind of cold 😉

  19. Awww the good ol’ Robe swing, my kids always had a blast and now even when they are older they still love it.. looked like you guys had a blast…hahah even the “big” kid looks like he is enjoying it… thanks for sharing

  20. Wow that is so much fun – I wish I could try this out for the fun and adventure of it, haha!

  21. Your boys are always having fun, it is so inspiring to see that Dad is always involve.

  22. We had a rope swing like this one at my grandparents farm growing up and it made for some great memories. Thanks for blasting me back to those times with these great pics of your boys.

  23. Oh gosh, I remember playing on those when I was a kid, so much fun!

  24. That looks like total fun but I have to admit as a kid I would have done it, today I would be a chick I would be afraid to fall.

  25. lol I would have chicken out too but my hubby would have gone on that swing just like Chris did eheheeh

  26. How fun! I haven’t been on one since I was a kid. There was one at a camp we were at. Ya just don’t fall!

  27. Haha! I love the way your husband joined in with the fun!

  28. Now this is fun! Reminds me of my childhood, I used to swing on stuff like this, hanging by a rope, lol. The energy small kids have…

  29. That looks like so much fun! I’ve always wanted a house with a creek in the backyard, except I’d call it a “babbling brook,” lol. Like an English countryside house.

  30. I would so fall in that brook…lol

  31. I need one of these in my backyard – it looks like so much fun! We found a rope swing at a campground once, and we had way too much fun playing around with it.

  32. Looks like you picked a good weekend to meet the new baby and have some fun!

  33. That looks like fun! I wish we had a tree to make a swing.

  34. That looks like so much fun! I had a tire swing when I was a kid and I’ve always wanted to have either a tire swing or rope swing in the yard for my daughter.

  35. hahaha why did you opt out. Even Chris looks like he’s having loads of fun. Stop being a party pooper Robin and join in some of the fun. 🙂

  36. Ahhh rope swings and tire swings bring back such awesome childhood memories for me. We didnt’ have cool swingsets like kids have nowadays. Fun stuff!

  37. we had a rope swing growing up at the lake house. we’d spend hours on that thing!

  38. OMG I’ve never swung on a rope swing! I’d totally be chicken.. LOL my luck it would break and I’d fall in the water :/ LOL

  39. The only rope swings I have seen have been beside lakes or “swimming holes” so that the swinger can let go and splash into the water. I’d be too scared to use one that I was supposed to cling to the entire time!

  40. Now that looks like a lot of fun! I don’t know that I would try it either but I know my husband would be on it! I look forward to your post about the new addition to your family 🙂

  41. I love how much you all enjoy life. Kudos for inspiring others to live!

  42. Oh nooo you should have done it, too! Facing your fears is one of the most adrenaline-rushing, thrill-seeking experiences!

  43. That looks like fun. My Grandpa had a rope swing when I was a kid. Loved that thing.

  44. omg i haven’t played on a rope swing in like forever so fun

  45. Ive never trusted rope swings. lol. I always feared that they would break and the limb would fall on me. lol

  46. There’s really nothing quite like a good ol’ rope swing! (As long as it’s not TOO old LOL)

  47. How fun! I’d be scared it would snap and I’d land in that water, lol!

  48. This looks like so much fun. I’ve always wanted to swing on one. My husband did when he was younger and broke his collarbone!

  49. Looks like a lot of fun! 🙂 How nice that you met your new little nephew too! God bless! 🙂

  50. It looks like you had a lot of fun. It reminds me of sweet innocent fun. Thank you for sharing this.

  51. That looks like a blast. I would have ended up in the water!

  52. You have so much fun! I think I work too much.

  53. Glad to see all three boys having fun 😉 Sometimes simple pleasures are the best.

  54. I have never used a rope swing before! I’ve always wanted to though and your boy makes it look so fun!!

  55. Rope swings are so fun! But, I have to admit, I was watching and wondering if there would be a fall into the creek. I guess I watch too many America’s Funniest Videos shows with my kids. LOL

  56. WIth the water and weather being that chilly, I wouldn’t have wanted to fall off, either! Brrr!

  57. I haven’t ridden on one of these things since I was a child. One of our neighbors had one and we wold ride that thing until we had blisters on our hands. Oh to be a child again!

  58. How fun!! My boys would love to be there 🙂

  59. That looks like fun. Knowing my luck I would fall in! 😉

  60. This looks like the good ol’ days! lots of fun to be had for sure.

  61. I guess I’d probably skip on that too. I’m not sure I would trust my arm strength!

  62. you seem to always be on the go. your kids are gonna have memories for lifetimes

  63. This looks like so much fun!! I love the bridge as well.

  64. Rope swings are so fun! Though it’s been years since I’ve been on one!

  65. I’ve never been able to try anything like this from where I’m from but it seems like so much fun! Definitely looks like you guys had a great time. 🙂

  66. Oh how fun! My daughter wants a tire swing but we nothing to hang it on.

  67. That rope swing looks like so much fun! Looks like everyone enjoyed!

  68. I would be too much of a chicken to try this but it looks fun!

  69. It reminds me of Bridge to Terabithia, only far less dangerous and just as fun! 🙂

  70. So much fun! That’s brave of your little guy to swing on the rope at the age of 6!

  71. Rope swings are so much fun! I love them, as long as they are not above deep deep water!

  72. Looks fun, but I’d have probably chickened out, too. ~lol~
