Ghosts & Gravestones Trolley Tour Savannah

My husband, Christian, and I recently got to spend a few days in Savannah, GA.  Over the years we’ve both heard the stories about how Savannah is America’s most haunted city, so we were dying to explore some of the haunted history of the charming southern city during our first visit there.

*Disclosure:  My husband and I received complimentary admission to the trolley tour in exchange for this post about our experience.  All opinions expressed here are strictly my own and were not influenced in any way.

For anyone that’s ever been to the historic part of Savannah, the first thing you’ll probably notice is that there are ghost tours everywhere you look.  While we were down there, someone told us that there were over 35 different tours to choose from.  With that many options, how do you decide which one to do?  For me, the decision was easy – I went with what I knew – the Ghosts & Gravestones Trolley Tour.  Last year for my birthday, Chris took me on the Ghosts & Gravestones Tour here in Boston and we loved it, so when we saw that the same company had tours in Savannah, it was a no-brainer for us.

Let’s just say that we were very happy with our decision.

On the Ghosts & Gravestones Tour we got exclusive nighttime entry into two of Savannah’s most haunted venues.  The first stop is the site of the Juliette Gordon Low House, which is the birthplace of the founder of the Girl Scouts of America. The second stop was the Perkin’s & Son’s Ship Chandlery, where we were able to commiserate with the spirits and truly EXPERIENCE the stories of haunted River Street.

Christian and I loved hearing all about Savannah’s darker side with a little dose of humor sprinkled in, of course.

On our voyage, we traveled throughout Savannah’s historic district.  We got to see some of Savannah’s most haunted sites, hear some eerie legends and stories about some of it’s most frightening residents. Our Ghost Host, Katrina, entertained us all evening with her knowledge of all things “shadowy and sinister” in Savannah and her great stories.

As I mentioned before, our first stop was at the Juliette Gordon Low House – the birthplace of the founder of the Girl Scouts of America. It’s a stunning Regency style home and it was actually the first National Historic Landmark named in Savannah. The Lows were a prominent Savannah family and today the presence of both Juliette and grandmother, Sarah Gordon, can be felt inside the house.

I didn’t see, hear or feel anything while I was inside the house, but I loved touring the home and looking at all of the lovely furnishings and decorations.

After we left the Juliette Gordon Low House, everyone reboarded the trolley and headed back down to River Street to step inside Perkin’s & Son’s Ship Chandlery.

Many people believe that River Street is the paranormal epicenter of “America’s Most Haunted City”.  I am not sure about that, but what I can tell you is that Perkins and Son’s stands as a testament to the bustling port business that once took place right at its doorstep.  Katrina led our group inside this antiquated building and as soon as we stepped inside, we felt like we had stepped into another time. Once inside, we truly did get a chance to EXPERIENCE a little taste of the haunted history that has given rise to the immense paranormal presence in Savannah.  I can honestly say that we were  completely immersed in the dark tales of River Street’s past while we were inside the Chandlery.

If you’re thinking about going on this tour, reservations are required. October is coming up quick and that means Halloween will be here before we know it!  Their tours sell out quickly and it’s highly recommended that you secure your spot in advance – especially for the week of Halloween, October 24 to October 31. Space is very limited for this very popular excursion, so don’t wait until the last minute or you risk missing out.

Where: Simply Savannah Trolley Depot: 301 East River St.
When: Nightly. Just call them at 1-888-920-8687 for available times.
Tour Length: 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The Ghosts & Gravestones tour is rated PG-13. No children under 6 are allowed and an adult must accompany anyone under the age of 18.

My husband and I had a blast during our time on the Trolley of the Doomed.  We loved hearing about the mysterious history of Savannah and the scariest part is that it’s all true!
