For an added kick, substitute coconut water instead of plain water to maintain the consistency you desire while at the same time adding essential minerals and electrolytes.

Smoothies Can Fill You Up Without the Calories: By using ample amounts of leafy greens such as spinach, kale, and chard, you can create a smoothie that’s both low in calories and high in fiber, which helps give you that feeling of being “full” without eating a huge meal. Cucumbers, peppers, and even tomatoes can help add more dietary fiber to your smoothie without adding unnecessary calories and limiting the amount of sugars. Sugars, even if they are all natural, tend to be digested relatively quickly, leaving your body craving more in a short amount of time. For cutting down on sugars even more, try to use fruit sparingly and opt for low sugar varieties like berries for best results.

Smoothies Are Versatile Part of a Balanced Diet: One of the great things about smoothies is that that are no hard and fast recipes you must follow, meaning you can add virtually any ingredient you prefer to them.   39. I am a big fan of detoxing with smoothies. I’ve done the Dr Oz 3 day cleanse a few times and it works great for resetting. You have to be careful with the sugar content but adding good fats like avocado, coconut oil or nut butter helps along with protein powders.

  66. My diet is so poor and I have to say that smoothies save the day every time as can put so much into them so I get the goodness that I wouldn’t from eating as I struggle with many foods

  67. My toddler and I LOVE smoothies. We make one every afternoon full of spinach and veggies. That way if we ate poorly during the day so far, we can make up for it and have an afternoon pick me up!
