The holidays are in full swing and whether we want to admit it or not, Christmas will be here SOON. The holidays bring all kinds of family gatherings and I like to be prepared for all of them. My husband is one of seven and all of the out of town siblings (and their families) came back home recently, so that equated to many get-togethers while everyone was in town. It’s been a few years since everyone was in one place, so it was pretty special. There were quite a few parties/gatherings over the time they were all home plus a few on my side (and two more coming up before Christmas) and of course there is no way that I could show up empty handed to any of them. It’s been a busy December for us to say the least so I headed over to Stop & Shop because I knew they would have everything I needed.
The first thing I did when I got to Stop & Shop was to grab all the ingredients I needed to make a couple of green bean casseroles. If I show up to any family event without one, I think it’s safe to say that they won’t even let me in the door. Luckily they are super easy to make and the recipe is right on the back of the French’s French fried onions.
If you don’t have the recipe, here is it:
Here’s what you need:
- 1 can (10 1/2 oz.) Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/8 tsp. black pepper
- 4 cups cooked cut green beans or 2 cans (14.5oz each) any style Del Monte® Green Beans, drained
- 1 1/3 cups FRENCH’S® Crispy Fried Onions
(I also use a couple of secret ingredients)
Here’s what you do:
1. Mix soup, milk and pepper in a 1 1/2 -qt. baking dish. Stir in beans and 2/3 cup Crispy Fried Onions.
2. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until hot. Stir.
3. Top with remaining 2/3 cup onions. Bake for 5 minutes until onions are golden.
See how easy it is? Here’s my first one of the season:
While I was at Stop & Shop, I also wanted to get a Christmasy plant or flower arrangement for my parents. They have the four of us (myself, hubby and the kids) over for dinner every Sunday, so I thought I’d get them something as a little thank you for having us over and feeding us week after week. I have two growing boys, so they always cook big meals to make sure no one leaves hungry.
When I walked into the store, I had every intention of getting my parents a poinsettia. I get them one every year, so I think they’ve kind of come to expect them…..but they’re going to be surprised this year when I show up with this cute little tree. I saw it sitting there in the floral department and knew I had to get it. I actually gasped when I saw it and said to my husband “It’s like a little Charlie Brown tree and I think it needs me to buy it” – so I did. Come on, it’s seriously cute, right?
Did you know that Stop & Shop has a really nice floral department? They had so many beautiful arrangements and holiday plants there. I knew they had a floral department and have actually purchased many arrangements there over the years, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the selection for the holidays – it was really impressive.
But back to my parents. They are hosting Christmas dinner this year, as they do every year and I want to make sure that I bring a meaningful hostess gift. With that said, here’s a little backstory so that you understand what “meaningful” means in this situation. My mom isn’t well and she’s housebound these days. Honestly, I don’t think she’s been out of the house in months with the last time being for a doctor’s appointment. So, I decided that she would appreciate a little basket full of all her favorite snacks!
I put it all into a Christmas container, slapped a bow on it and boom – awesome hostess gift.
I’m not bringing it over there until Christmas day, but I know she is going to love it. It’s got all her favorite things, so how could she not?
Being so busy this month I am so thankful that I was able to get all of the stuff I needed in one convenient place. On top of the stuff I got, I was able to stock up on all of my Christmas cards and wrapping supplies at Stop & Shop! I’m also happy to report that I’m not only done with all my Christmas shopping, but thanks to all the cool gift bags, tags and bows that I got at Stop & Shop, I am done with my wrapping now, too! Yay!
