One of the things we did while were at the the San Diego Zoo Safari Park back in April was to take a ride on the Africa Tram. The Africa Tram tour brings visitors out into the “Savanna” to see wildlife from different parts of Africa.
We saw so many animals while we were out on the 40 minute tour, but we are regulars on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride at The Animal Kingdom in Disney World because we go there so often – and because of that we weren’t as impressed as we probably should have been on this tour.
It did cost extra to go on the tram, but there are different ticket options at the park, so you can get a pass that includes the tram when you first buy your tickets for the park when you arrive. If you have never experienced African animals out in their natural habitat, this is definitley something you would want to check out if you are planning on spending time at the safari park.
Check out all the animals we saw:
One thing I feel like I need to point out is this Northern White Rhino, which will go extinct in our lifetime. There are only 7 left in the entire world and two of them are in San Diego (the other 5 are in Africa being watched by armed guards). All but one of the seven are too old to reproduce, which is why they will be gone before we know it thanks to poachers.
The tour guide did say that they have all sorts of tissue samples and DNA for the Northern White Rhino in the lab, so if technology should ever advance to a point in which they can bring them back, they will.
I liked going on the Africa Tram, but if you decide to take the tour, watch out because they grab you on the way in for a photo and try to sell it on the way out.
