Spread the love

I love brunching, don’t you?  There is just something special about that mid-morning meal that tends to bring people together to share a meal and quality time with friends and family. I recently had a chance to try brunch at Lincoln Tavern in South Boston and the best part is that I got to experience their brunch test kitchen the day I was there.

Lincoln is one of the city’s most sought after brunch destinations on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday from 10am-3pm), but Chef Nicholas Dixon and his team also do a Brunch Test Kitchen menu every Friday from 10:00AM – 3:00PM. Each week the Brunch Test Kitchen features a new line-up of off menu items that are potential contenders to join Lincoln Tavern’s already award winning brunch line up. Think: Nutella S’mores Pancakes that are super stacked chocolate chip and marshmallow pancakes with layers of Nutella, toasted marshmallow and graham cracker crumbs, Fried Chicken & Cheddar Biscuits with sausage gravy and quail egg, a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milkshake with vanilla ice cream, fireball and rumchata…..you see where I’m going with this.

Located in the heart of South Boston, Lincoln is a classic American tavern that offers guests a welcoming combination of home-spun, American fare alongside a wide variety of rustic, wood-fire-grilled specialties.

Built with the intention of being a comfortable meeting spot for locals looking to share stories at the end of their long day, Lincoln draws inspiration from its surrounding, hard-working, and uniquely American neighborhood.

Revitalizing a nearly forgotten West Broadway space that at one time housed the area’s only department store, Lincoln feels nostalgic. It’s open-air, tiled-floor cafe, grande bar, and soaring, original tin ceilings remind us of a time when dining halls and supper clubs were a way of life.

I got a chance to try out some of the Brunch Test Kitchen items recently with some blogger friends and want to tell you about a few of the things I tried from the test kitchen menu.

Philly Cheesesteak Hot Pocket
(shaved wagyu sirloin, griddled peppers and onions, Tallegio cheese sauce)

Fluffernutter Parfait
(peanut butter mousse, homemade fluff, cookie crumble, caramelized banana)

Fried Calamari
(fried onion, cherry pepper aioli, lemon)

Fruity Pebble Pancakes
(stack of pancakes, cereal milk anglaise)

Roasted Onion & Goat Cheese Pizza
(oven roasted leeks and shallots, caramelized onions, shaved garlic, romesco sauce) — this one is on their regular menu, but I highly recommend it.  It was phenomenal.

Brunch Pot Pie
(sausage gravy, confit potatoes, broccolini, peas, sage, sunny-side up egg, honey butter)

Butternut Squash Pancakes
(toffee caramel, brown compound butter, toasted walnuts, whipped sour cream)

I was in heaven. Everything I had was incredible, but that Fluffernutter Parfait was my favorite by far. I was really impressed by the variety on the menu and can’t wait to get back there again soon.

Grab a booth up front with friends for dinner — or make your way past the lively main bar and into the back room for a more traditional sit-down, dining experience.

Lincoln Tavern is located at 425 West Broadway in South Boston. Street parking is available (if you get lucky) or there is lot across the street that offers 2-hour parking.

Be sure to follow Lincoln Tavern on Instagram @lincolnsouthbos to stay up to date on each week’s brunch test kitchen offerings or  let them know what you would like to see more of!
