One of the discoveries that we made while we were at Hollywood Studios last year was the Lights, Motors, Action!® Extreme Stunt Show®. The show featured several cars performing high-speed chases packed with precise, split-second spins and misses—just like in the movies!
Here we are before showtime.
The show was broken up into sections. They would film a “scene” like they were making a movie and then beak to explain what we saw. Here is a picture from the first scene:
But here’s the true star of the show:
Yup, Lightning McQueen does a small scene in the middle of the show. All the kids went nuts when he drove out.
After Lightning McQueen was done, the actors & crew set up the next scene which involved motorcycles, cars driving on their side and even flying from one ramp to another:
Although they appear to be stock, the cars are actually modified high-performance Opel autos with secret movie magic under the hood. Propelled by 1,300 cc, 150-horsepower motorcycle engines with a unique gear system of 4 forward gears and 4 reverse gears, each auto weighs less than half as much as a standard production car.
Oh, and then there was this guy on fire. It was part of the show and they showed a short video that showed all the protective layers he needed to put on before he could do the stunt. I think they said that it took nearly an hour to get all the gear on that he needed – and then the scene he was in lasted for only two or three seconds.
All the stunts are played back on a massive video screen at the end of the show to reveal how action-packed chase scenes are made through the magic of film editing, camera angles and other amazing tricks of the trade.
They normally do two shows a day –
