New London is an up and coming town in coastal Connecticut. I’ve driven through it a million times, but never got off the highway to explore all that it had to offer – until recently.  My husband and I spent a weekend in the area and were super impressed by all the great food we ate in New London.  There are lots of great places to eat in New London, but here are some of the places we loved eating at and highly recommend checking out:

Have Breakfast at Breakfast at Muddy Waters

Whether you want a cup of strong locally roasted coffee, a chai latte, or a hearty breakfast of oatmeal and a banana, Muddy Waters makes sure you start your morning off right. Pick up a paper or catch the local gossip. Baristas whip up a full menu of coffee beverages while you drool over the pastries and cookies in the display cases. Lunch offerings include sandwiches, grinders, tomato soup, and the famous “Love and Lust” salads. Enjoy the deck overlooking the river or relax in Muddy Waters’ comfortable, eclectically furnished interior.

Chris and I split a warm cinnamon bun and an Egg, Tomato, Baby Spinach And Cheese breakfast sandwich outside on the back deck.

The breakfast sandwiches are served on your choice of bagel, croissant, or multi-grain bread or grilled hard roll. We got ours on an Asiago bagel and it was absolutely perfect.  What a great way to start the day!

Muddy Waters is located at 42 Bank Street, New London!  Try it, you’ll like it. I promise.

Brunch at Fatboy’s Bar + Kitchen

Leading the Culinary Team at Fatboy’s Bar + Kitchen is Chef/Co-Owner Ronald Dutes, whose deep appreciation for the culinary arts was developed at a young age in New York City. Following high school, Chef Ron attended Johnson and Wales University in Providence and landed his first gig as a cook at Legal Seafoods in Warwick, Rhode Island. Now at Fatboy’s, Chef Ron hopes to bring flavorful and creative, out of the box dishes, to the New London waterfront.

While Fatboy’s has a full menu, Chris and I stopped in for brunch. We heard their brunch selection was phenomenal and we were not disappointed at all.

I ended up deciding on the Avocado Toast, which came topped with a Fried Egg and Housemade Guacamole.

Chris got Two Eggs Any Style (he got fried) and it came with his choice of Bacon or Sausage, Home Fries or Side Salad.

We walked out stuffed and very happy!  The food was amazing and we loved being able to sit outside on the back deck to eat.

Fatboy’s Bar + Kitchen is located at 194 Bank Street, New London.  Stop in for brunch and thank me later.

Dine at Tony D’s Italian Restaurant

Owner, Tony D’Angelo, has created a rustic Italian gem on the corner of Huntington Street and Broad Street in downtown New London. Tony D’s Italian Restaurant has been a New London favorite for the past 10 years – loved by couples, friends, families and singles, alike. More than just a place to eat, Tony D’s is a gathering place where you and your friends and family can slow down, enjoy a homemade meal and reconnect. With three large dining rooms and a separate bar area playing live music Friday and Saturday evenings, there is something for everyone at Tony D’s.

Some of the restaurant’s remarkable signature dishes include Veal Marsala, spicy Zuppa Di Pesce, Chicken Genovese and Sole Florentine. Tony D’s Restaurant, of course, serves some of the finest pasta dishes…including Tortellini in a creamy alfredo pesto sauce, homemade Ravioli with fresh ricotta, and Linguine Marinara. All recipes have been passed down from generation to generation in the D’Angelo family. In addition to placing the quality of food and service on the highest priority, Tony has always tried to maintain the family-oriented feel a customer experiences when dining there.

Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Tony D’s!  I got the White Truffle Fettuccini (Fettuccini tossed with white truffle cream sauce, parmigano regiano, shitake mushrooms, and crispy pancetta).

Chris got the Tortellini (In an Alfredo pesto sauce with grilled chicken).

Both meals came with a house salad and the dressing was fantastic.  They should really bottle it and sell it!!

And let’s not forget dessert….

We rolled out of there with very full tummies! Tony D’s Italian Restaurant is located at 92 Huntington Street, New London

Which of these places would you like to try?
